What’s the Point of Life? Finding Real Meaning Through the Lord Jesus Christ
When Success Still Feels Empty
Have you ever achieved something you once dreamed about, yet still felt empty afterward?
At first, success feels exciting. However, after a while, the excitement fades. Then a quiet question begins to rise in your heart: Is this really the point of life?
Many people chase money, comfort, relationships, or recognition. Meanwhile, they secretly struggle with the same painful question: Why does life still feel meaningless sometimes?
Interestingly, this struggle is not new. Thousands of years ago, one of the richest and wisest kings in history asked the very same question.
That king was Solomon, the writer traditionally associated with the book of Ecclesiastes.
Now here is what makes his story powerful. Solomon had everything the modern world says should bring happiness. He had wealth, influence, wisdom, power, and pleasure. Yet after examining life deeply, he made a shocking statement:
“Meaningless! Meaningless! Everything is meaningless.”
Clearly, something was missing.
Therefore, in this article we will explore three important truths:
-
Why life often feels meaningless
-
What Solomon discovered after searching everywhere
-
How the Lord Jesus Christ gives life its true purpose
By the end, you will clearly understand the real point of life.
The Search for Meaning: Solomon Tried Everything
First, Solomon searched for meaning in success.
He built cities, gardens, and great buildings. In fact, he led Israel during one of the most prosperous periods in its history. From a worldly perspective, his life looked perfect.
Next, he searched for meaning in pleasure.
He enjoyed entertainment, wealth, luxury, and relationships. However, after experiencing all of it, he reached a painful conclusion.
Nothing truly satisfied his soul.
Then Solomon wrote this honest observation in Ecclesiastes:
“Everything under the sun is meaningless—like chasing the wind.”
In other words, worldly pursuits promise fulfillment. Yet they cannot deliver lasting meaning.
Today we see the same pattern everywhere.
People chase careers.
People chase fame.
People chase comfort.
However, despite all the progress and technology in our modern world, people still feel empty inside.
Therefore, the real problem is not a lack of success.
Instead, the real problem is a lack of eternal purpose.
Why Life Feels Meaningless Without the Lord Jesus Christ
Now let’s be honest about something important.
Humans were never designed to live only for temporary things.
Instead, the Lord Jesus Christ, our Creator and Everlasting Father, designed us for something far deeper. He created us to know Him, love Him, and live according to His purpose.
However, when people try to build their lives apart from the Lord Jesus Christ, life begins to feel hollow.
Think about it this way.
If someone buys a beautiful car but never puts fuel in it, the car cannot run properly.
Similarly, when people try to live without the One who created them, their souls feel empty.
This explains why so many successful people still struggle with depression, anxiety, and dissatisfaction.
They have everything except the One thing that truly satisfies the soul.
The Turning Point in Ecclesiastes
Thankfully, the story does not end in despair.
After searching everywhere for meaning, Solomon finally reached a life-changing conclusion.
He wrote these words near the end of Ecclesiastes:
“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13)
In simple terms, Solomon discovered the true point of life.
Life finds its meaning when we honor, obey, and love the Lord Jesus Christ.
Everything else is temporary.
However, a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ gives life eternal purpose.
What Does It Mean to “Fear” the Lord Jesus Christ?
At first, the word fear might sound confusing.
However, in Scripture, fearing the Lord Jesus Christ does not mean living in terror. Instead, it means living with deep awe, respect, and reverence.
For example:
-
It means recognizing that He created us.
-
It means trusting His wisdom above our own.
-
It means obeying His commandments because we love Him.
Therefore, fearing the Lord Jesus Christ leads to a life that is full of purpose.
When we live this way, life is no longer meaningless.
The Greatest Commandment
Later, the Lord Jesus Christ summarized the heart of all commandments.
He taught that the purpose of life is simple but powerful:
-
Love the Lord Jesus Christ with all your heart
-
Love your neighbor as yourself
When we live this way, something amazing happens.
Life begins to make sense.
Instead of chasing temporary success, we begin living for eternal impact.
A Simple Real-Life Example
Imagine two people building houses.
The first person builds on sand. The house looks beautiful at first. However, when storms come, the foundation collapses.
The second person builds on solid rock. When storms arrive, the house remains standing.
The Lord Jesus Christ explained this powerful truth in Gospel of Matthew.
Life built on worldly pursuits alone eventually collapses.
However, life built on the Lord Jesus Christ stands firm.
