“You anoint my head with oil.”

In ancient Israel, anointing with oil wasn’t random. It meant something.

Shepherds poured oil on sheep to heal wounds and keep insects away. Kings were anointed to rule. Priests were anointed to serve.

It marked you as chosen, protected, and set apart.

So when God anoints you, He’s saying, “I’m with you. I’m for you. You’re mine.” Oil also represents the Holy Spirit, God gives you His spirit to comfort and guide you through life. That’s strength for the weary. Favor in the fight. Healing for the broken.

Blessings that Spill Over

David doesn’t stop there.

“My cup overflows.”

Not half-full. Not barely enough. But overflowing.

God gives more than you need, not just for survival, but for abundance. His love fills you up so much that it can’t stay contained.

“Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 23:6)

God’s goodness pursues you. His love follows you. Every day. In every place.

You’re not just passing through life. You’re on your way home, to dwell in His house, forever.

This isn’t a temporary fix. It’s eternal security.
