When It Feels Like God Has Forgotten You
You’ve waited. You’ve prayed. You’ve cried yourself to sleep. Still, nothing changes.
At some point, we’ve all felt it, that sharp ache of an unfulfilled longing. Whether it’s for a child, a spouse, healing, or peace in a broken relationship, that waiting room of life can feel like a place of abandonment. You wonder if God hears. You question if He cares. You ask if you’re the only one who feels forgotten.
That’s exactly where Hannah found herself.
Hannah’s Heartache and Your Hidden Hurt
Hannah desperately longed for a child. Each year, she went to the temple and poured her heart out to God. But instead of comfort, she was mocked. Her rival made fun of her. Her husband didn’t understand her pain. Even the priest misjudged her.
Still, she kept showing up.
And maybe that’s where your story connects. Like Hannah, you’ve kept praying. You’ve kept hoping. But the calendar pages keep turning, and your arms are still empty of children, of joy, or maybe just the sense that God sees you.
Why Longing Hurts So Deeply
Longing touches the deepest part of us because it often connects with our identity, worth, and purpose. When we don’t see the answer, we may feel forgotten. We may start to believe that God has blessed everyone else but skipped over us.
But here’s a truth to cling to: Longing does not mean abandonment.
Even in the silence, God was working in Hannah’s life. She couldn’t see it yet, but heaven had not closed its ears.
God Answers in His Time
Eventually, after years of heartbreak and waiting, Hannah received her miracle. God gave her a son Samuel. He would go on to become one of Israel’s greatest prophets.
But it’s not just the child that matters it’s the worship that came afterward. Hannah’s heart responded to God with deep awe and unshakable faith. She declared in 1 Samuel 2:2:
“No one is holy like the Lord! There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.”
This was more than a praise report. It was a revelation.
There’s No One Else Like God
No one else can see your silent prayers and answer them at the perfect time.
No one else can heal what others can’t see.
No one else can be trusted with your deepest dreams.
No one else can sustain your soul when the waiting feels endless.
And no one else can save not just your circumstances, but your heart.
That’s what Hannah discovered: her longing wasn’t wasted. It brought her to the only One who could truly fill it.
What to Do When You’re Still Waiting
If you’re still in the middle of your waiting season, here are four things you can do:
-
Keep coming to God. Bring your honest prayers, even the painful ones.
-
Trust His timing. Delays are not denials.
-
Anchor your identity in Him. Your worth is not based on what you lack.
-
Remember Hannah. Her story reminds us that God sees, hears, and answers even if it takes time.
