Holding the Door Open

When it feels like the world is spinning out of control, do you ever wonder why Jesus hasn’t returned yet?

According to 2 Peter 3:9, Jesus is not being slow about His promise. Instead, He’s being patient. He’s holding the door open for you, for me, and for everyone.

Why Is the Door Still Open?

First, let’s look at the heart of God.

Peter writes,

“The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.”

That’s the truth. God isn’t delaying because He’s forgotten us. He’s waiting because He loves us.

Even more, He loves the people we care about our family, our neighbors, and our friends who don’t know Him yet.

God is giving them time.

A Story of Second Chances

Think about someone in your life who came to Jesus after many years. Maybe it was your grandfather who found faith at 70. Maybe it was you wandering, hurting, running until God reached out and brought you in.

Imagine if Jesus had returned before that moment.

That’s what Peter is talking about. Every day Jesus waits is another day for someone to turn around. To repent. To find hope.

Jesus is holding the door open wide.

Jesus could announce His return at any moment. But for now, He’s working through people like you. He wants His followers to help spread the word.

These things matter. You are part of God’s plan to reach the world.

Why This Matters Now

Let’s be honest life can make us forget.

We get caught up in routines. We worry about money, family, or our own struggles. Sharing the Gospel feels too big, too awkward, or too far outside our comfort zone.

But here’s the problem: if we don’t share, who will?

Jesus is giving people a chance. And He’s asking you to be part of it.

So, let’s not miss this opportunity. Let’s not get distracted by things that don’t last. The world is temporary. But souls are eternal.

What’s at Stake?

People who accept Jesus find more than just forgiveness.

They discover peace. A peace that doesn’t disappear when life gets hard.
They experience joy. Not fake happiness, but deep, lasting joy that comes from God.
They gain a relationship. One with the living God who knows them, loves them, and walks with them daily.

That’s the kind of life God is inviting everyone into.

And you get to help extend the invitation.

A Final Word of Hope

You are not alone in this. Jesus is still at work, through His Spirit, through His Word, and through you.

The door is still open. But it won’t stay open forever. That’s why today matters.

This moment is a gift. Use it well.

Tell someone. Live the Gospel. Shine God’s light. Let people know the invitation still stands.

The clock is ticking but the door is open.
