Who Do You Trust?
Introduction: Facing the Hard Question
Have you ever found yourself asking, “Who can I really trust?” Maybe it came in a moment of heartbreak, a season of loss, or a time when your prayers seemed to bounce off the ceiling. I’ve been there too. As a teacher of God’s Word, I’ve walked with people who wrestled with doubt, and I’ve wrestled myself. The truth is, trust is easy when life is smooth. But when pain hits, when people disappoint, and when circumstances crumble, trust becomes a choice. Today, let’s talk about where real trust belongs.
Trusting God When Life Hurts
Life often delivers blows we never saw coming. A dream dies. A relationship breaks. A prayer goes unanswered. When this happens, our hearts crave something steady. Sadly, many of us lean on things that cannot hold us. Some trust money. Others trust leaders, friends, or even themselves. Yet, Isaiah reminds us that only God is unshakable.
Isaiah spoke during a time when Judah leaned on idols and corrupt rulers. He warned them of exile but also pointed them to hope. He prophesied about a Savior, Jesus, who would come to rescue us forever. Even though Isaiah never saw the fulfillment, he trusted God’s promises. That’s the kind of trust we need too.
Why Trust in the Lord?
We can trust God because He has proven Himself faithful again and again. Seasons may change, people may betray, and circumstances may shift. But God never changes. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
When you’re hurting, trust in the Lord.
When you’re waiting, trust in the Lord.
When you’re misunderstood, trust in the Lord.
When your heart is breaking, trust in the Lord.
The cross is the greatest proof that God keeps His promises. Jesus suffered, died, and rose again to save us. If God kept that promise, He will keep every promise He has made to you.
Practical Ways to Strengthen Trust
So how do you hold onto trust when everything in you wants to give up? Here are a few practical steps:
-
Remember God’s faithfulness. Write down times He has come through for you.
-
Stay in His Word. Scripture builds trust because it shows God’s character.
-
Pray honestly. Tell God your fears and doubts. He can handle them.
-
Surround yourself with faith-filled people. Community reminds you that you’re not alone.
