When Fear Creeps In
Have you ever faced a moment where the future seemed too heavy to carry? Maybe you were stepping into a new role, moving into a new season, or standing at the edge of the unknown. Fear often shows up in these moments, whispering doubts. I’ve been there too. And you might feel like asking, “Who will lead me through this?”
That’s the same question Joshua could have asked when Moses handed him the responsibility of leading Israel. Moses had been the voice, the guide, and the steady hand for forty years. Now Joshua had to step up.
But Moses didn’t leave him with a leadership manual or a step-by-step guide. Instead, he left him with something better: the promise of God’s presence.
God Goes Before You
Moses told Joshua, “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:8). Those words weren’t just for Joshua. They’re for you and me today.
Think about it. When you walk into that interview, God goes before you. When you face a difficult diagnosis, God is already there. When you stand at the edge of a broken relationship, God hasn’t abandoned you. He isn’t trailing behind or standing far off. He is ahead, guiding every step.
This changes how we see challenges. The problem is not about whether you have enough strength. The real truth is whether you trust the One who leads.
A Lesson From the Wilderness
Moses had learned this lesson in the wilderness. Israel didn’t survive because of Moses’ brilliance. They survived because God provided manna, water, and protection. Moses wanted Joshua to remember that truth.
In the same way, your strength doesn’t rest in your skill or wisdom alone. God’s hand is the reason you’ve made it this far. And His hand will carry you further still.
Do Not Be Afraid
Fear often tells us to shrink back. But Moses’ words cut through fear with hope: “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” That’s easier said than done, right?
Here’s the difference: God doesn’t just tell you what not to feel. He reminds you why you don’t have to feel it. His presence cancels fear. His promise outweighs uncertainty. And His faithfulness outlives your doubts.
How This Applies to You
Think about your own story right now. What are you stepping into? A new job? A new relationship? A season of grief or change?
Just as God was with Joshua, He is with you. He leads through Scripture, prayer, wise counsel, and His Spirit. He will not leave you stranded. He will not walk away when life feels too big.

Walking Forward With Confidence
The story of Joshua reminds us that leadership, strength, and courage come from God’s presence. He will lead you through the wilderness and into the promises He has planned.
So when the future feels uncertain, remember this: God has already gone before you. He will walk with you. And He will never leave you behind.
Therefore, you don’t have to be afraid. You don’t have to be discouraged. You can step forward, not because you know what’s ahead, but because you know Who leads the way.
