When Life Pulls You Away from God
Have you ever felt far from God? Maybe you’ve tried to fix life on your own, only to end up more broken and empty. Many believers wrestle with pride, stubbornness, or the weight of sin. Yet God gives us a clear path back to Him. As a Bible teacher and follower of Christ, I’ve seen time and again that the answer is not more self-effort, it’s humbling ourselves and turning back to God. Today, I want to walk you through why this matters and how you can respond.
A Lesson from Solomon’s Day
Around 957 B.C., King Solomon finished the temple his father David dreamed of. After years of planning, building, and dedicating this sacred place, God showed up in power. Fire fell from heaven, and His presence filled the temple.
Later, the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and reminded him how His people should respond when facing trials. God said:
“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”
— 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT)
This message was given to Israel in their context. But the heart of it, humility, prayer, and repentance, remains true for us today.
Why Humility Matters
Pride tells us we can do life alone. Pride whispers that we don’t need God’s help. But the truth is, pride separates us from Him. Humility, however, opens the door to grace.
Think about it like this: Have you ever refused help, only to regret it later? Maybe you tried to carry something heavy without asking for a hand. Eventually, you dropped it. In the same way, when we try to carry life’s burdens without God, we collapse. Humility says, “Lord, I can’t do this alone. I need You.”
Honest Prayer Brings Real Change
Prayer is not about saying the right words. It’s about being real with God. He already knows your heart. Pretending won’t work.
When you pray with honesty, you give God room to move. For example, David often poured out his raw emotions in the Psalms, fear, sorrow, anger, even doubt. Yet he always returned to trust in God. We can do the same.
Repentance Restores Relationship
Repentance is not just saying “sorry.” It’s turning around. Imagine driving the wrong way on a highway. You don’t just admit you’re wrong; you get off at the next exit and go in the right direction.
Spiritually, repentance means leaving behind sin and walking toward God. It’s not about shame, it’s about restoration. God promises forgiveness and healing when we turn back to Him.
God’s Invitation Still Stands
If you’ve been running from God or relying only on yourself, it’s not too late. God’s arms are open. He’s a Father who forgives, heals, and makes all things new.
You don’t have to stay distant. You can humble yourself today, pray with honesty, and repent from whatever is holding you back. The invitation is clear: Turn to Him.
