Choose Thankfulness: Discover God’s Goodness in Every Season
Life rarely goes as planned. You pray, you wait, and yet doors stay closed. You give your best, but people still underestimate you. Maybe you’ve felt unseen, forgotten, or even betrayed. But here’s the good news: your story doesn’t end there.
King David knew this pain firsthand. His own family overlooked him, a giant mocked him, and his father-in-law chased him for years. Yet through it all, David clung to God’s promise. He didn’t give up. Instead, he chose thankfulness and trusted God to keep His word. And when God came through, David proclaimed:
“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” (1 Chronicles 16:34, NIV)
Why Thankfulness Matters in Tough Seasons
At first, thankfulness sounds easy when life feels good. But what about when life feels unfair? That’s when thankfulness becomes a powerful act of faith.
David didn’t wait until he became king to be grateful. He praised God in caves, in battlefields, and while running for his life. Why? Because David knew something we often forget, God’s love endures forever.
And here’s the truth for you: that same love is still fighting for you today. Through Jesus, you have continual access to God’s goodness. You can’t outrun it. You can’t lose it. You can only choose to recognize it.
Two Practical Ways to Choose Thankfulness
1. Thank Him in Prayer
Jesus taught His disciples to begin prayer with honor: “Our Father in heaven, help us to honor Your name.” Prayer is more than asking; it’s about relationship. This week, set aside one moment each day to thank God for something specific without asking for anything in return.
Example: “Lord, thank You for protecting me this morning. Thank You for breath in my lungs. Thank You for never leaving me.” Small prayers of gratitude train your heart to see God’s hand everywhere.
2. Share Your Story
Hebrews 13:15–16 tells us to honor God by proclaiming His name. So what has He done for you? Did He provide in a time of need? Did He bring peace when anxiety was heavy? Sharing your testimony is more than encouragement, it’s worship.
Look for natural moments to share your story with friends, coworkers, or family. Your words could be the reminder someone else needs to keep trusting God.
A Quick Reflection Exercise
Take one minute right now. List three things you’re thankful for today. Write them down, say them out loud, or whisper them in prayer. This simple act changes how you see your challenges.

Final Encouragement
Right now, pause and breathe. No matter what storm you face, God’s love endures. Like David, you can choose thankfulness even before the victory comes. Gratitude doesn’t deny the struggle—it declares God’s goodness in the middle of it.
So today, bring Him your concerns. Surrender your expectations. And most of all, choose thankfulness. Because when you do, you’ll see God’s evidence of love written all over your life.
