My True Identity: A Child of God
You Are More Than What You Do
Right now, many people feel lost. They feel tired. They feel boxed in by labels they never chose. And because of that, they quietly wonder, Who am I really?
Because I have walked this road myself, I understand that struggle deeply. And because I study and teach biblical identity, I know the answer Scripture gives. So today, we will slow down together. And then we will uncover the truth God speaks over your life.
Most importantly, we will explore your true identity in Christ, its significance, and how it transforms everything.
The Problem With Labels
Many of us define ourselves by what we do. And often, we say it without thinking. We say, “I am a teacher.” Or we say, “I am a firefighter.” Or we say, “I am an accountant.”
At first, that seems harmless. However, over time, those titles begin to carry weight. And eventually, they begin to shape our worth.
When work goes well, we feel valuable. But when work fails, we feel empty. And when life changes, we feel lost.
Because of this, many people struggle when God leads them outside what once defined them. And as a result, fear creeps in.
What Scripture Says About Your Identity
Thankfully, God speaks clearly into this confusion. And He does so with both truth and love.
John 1:12 says, “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”
This verse shifts everything. Because your deepest identity is not earned. Instead, it is received.
You are not defined by your job. You are not defined by your past. And you are not defined by your mistakes. Rather, you are defined by your relationship with Jesus Christ.
Becoming a Child of God Is Active
Receiving Jesus is not passive. And it is not symbolic. Instead, it is a daily, active choice.
When you identify as a child of God, you accept His love. Then you submit to His authority. And finally, you respond to His call.
That means you no longer live for approval. And it means you no longer chase identity through performance.
Instead, you live from a place of belonging.
Freedom Beyond Old Chains
This new identity brings freedom. And that freedom is real.
Jesus breaks chains that once felt permanent. He frees people from addiction. He restores those crushed by grief. And He lifts those trapped in poverty of spirit.
Even good things can become chains. Success can trap us. Comfort can hold us back. And fear can keep us small.
But when you know who you are in Christ, those chains lose their power.
A New Story Begins
You are no longer a child of brokenness. Instead, you are a child of God.
Because of that, you carry the dignity of your Creator. And because of that, your life now has purpose.
In many ways, this is like a superhero origin story. Everything changes once you know where you came from. And everything changes once you know who stands behind you.
What This Means for Daily Life
When you wake up tomorrow, nothing about your schedule may change. But everything about your perspective can.
You belong to God. You are loved by Him. And you are free through Christ.
Because of this, you can face hardship with hope. And you can face change with courage. And you can face the future with confidence.
