Throw Out the Garbage: Hold Fast to the Truth of the Lord Jesus
A Simple Question with a Clear Answer
No wise person keeps garbage in their bed. In fact, no sane person would sleep surrounded by refuse. The answer is obvious. We throw garbage away because it contaminates what should be clean and pure.
Likewise, our spiritual lives should not be filled with confusion, false teaching, or corruption. Just as we protect our homes from waste, we must guard our hearts from spiritual garbage.
Therefore, the call is clear: “Come out from among them and be separate,” says the Lord, “and touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you.” This is not just a suggestion. It is a command rooted in love and truth.
Many Ways or One Way?
Today, many voices claim that there are many paths to salvation. However, the Lord Jesus spoke plainly and without confusion:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes unto the Father but by Me.”
These words leave no room for mixture or compromise. They are direct and exclusive. If we believe the Lord Jesus, then we must also believe what He meant.
Furthermore, the Lord Jesus declared that all who are of the Father come to Him. That statement settles the argument. Truth does not bend to opinion. Instead, it stands firm regardless of culture, trends, or popular belief.
The Foundation That Cannot Be Replaced
Many teachers today offer new ideas. Some promise a broader path. Others dilute the message to make it easier to accept. Yet Scripture tells us that we are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets.
No other foundation can be laid than the one already laid.
The Lord Jesus gave authority to His chosen apostles. What they bound on earth was bound in heaven. What they loosed on earth was loosed in heaven. That authority was not random. It was divine.
We see this clearly in Chapter 2 of the Book of Acts. There, the first recorded message of the church was preached. It was not vague. It was not altered to please the crowd. It was bold, clear, and powerful.
That message remains our guide today.
Garbage or Gold?
So what is garbage in a spiritual sense?
Garbage is false doctrine. Garbage is rebellion dressed as freedom. Garbage is disobedience disguised as enlightenment. Garbage is the refusal to submit to the clear words of the Lord Jesus.
On the other hand, gold represents truth. Gold represents obedience. Gold represents the unchanging gospel delivered once to the saints.
Therefore, we must make a choice. Will we cling to the refuse offered by disobedient teachers? Or will we purchase the gold refined by fire?
A wise person does not treasure trash. Instead, they remove it quickly and replace it with what is valuable.
One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism
The apostle Paul summarized it beautifully:
One Lord.
One faith.
One baptism.
One Lord Jesus and Father of us all.
One Spirit.
One hope of our calling.
Unity does not come from blending error with truth. It comes from standing firmly on what was delivered by the apostles. When we add to it or subtract from it, we create confusion. But when we hold fast to it, we find stability.
Moreover, this unity protects us. It guards our hearts against deception. It keeps us anchored when waves of false teaching attempt to sweep us away.
Why This Matters Today
We live in a time of spiritual noise. Everyone has an opinion. Every platform hosts a new teacher. Yet not every message carries truth.
Therefore, discernment is essential. Ask yourself:
-
Does this teaching align with the words of the Lord Jesus?
-
Does it agree with the apostles’ doctrine?
-
Does it call me to holiness and obedience?
If the answer is no, then it belongs in the trash.
Remember, garbage is refuse. It is not acceptable. It may look appealing for a moment, but eventually it produces decay.
