The Name That Must Be Spoken: Rediscovering the Lord Jesus in Scripture
Comparing Scripture With Scripture
One of the most powerful ways to understand truth is by comparing Scripture with Scripture. When we read different passages together, a clear picture begins to form. The Bible is not a collection of disconnected writings. Instead, it is a unified message pointing to one central figure, the Lord Jesus Christ.
From the first verse of Genesis to the final line of Revelation, the Bible consistently reveals who the Lord Jesus is and why His name matters. Sadly, however, many people today claim the Christian faith yet rarely mention His name. This raises an important question: Have we forgotten the center of our faith?
Let us examine several passages and see what conclusion the Scriptures themselves lead us to.
The Creator Revealed in the Beginning
The Bible opens with a powerful declaration:
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1
This verse establishes the Creator as the source of everything that exists. Nothing came into being without Him. The heavens, the earth, and all life originate from the Creator’s power.
However, the Bible does not leave the identity of this Creator unclear. As we continue reading through Scripture, more light is revealed.
The Creator is not distant or unknown. Instead, the Scriptures gradually reveal that the Creator would one day come into the world Himself.
The Lord Who Created Alone
Centuries after Genesis, the prophet Isaiah recorded a remarkable statement:
“Thus says your Redeemer… I am the Lord who makes all things, who stretches out the heavens alone, who spreads out the earth by myself.” — Isaiah 44:24
Notice the emphasis: “by myself” and “alone.”
This verse tells us that the Creator had no helper. No other being shared in the creation of the universe. The Lord alone made the heavens and the earth.
This declaration is important because it establishes a foundation. Whoever created the world must be the Lord Himself.
But the New Testament provides a stunning revelation.
The Word Who Made the World
The Gospel of John introduces us to the One who entered the world:
“He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not.” — John 1:10
This verse tells us two things.
First, the world was made by Him.
Second, He came into the world that He created.
John continues:
“He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of the Lord Jesus, even to them that believe on His name.” — John 1:11–12
Here we see the identity of the Creator fully revealed. The One who made the world entered His creation as the Lord Jesus Christ.
Yet tragically, many did not recognize Him.
The Power of Believing in His Name
The Scriptures place tremendous importance on the name of the Lord Jesus.
John tells us that those who believe on His name receive the power to become the children of the Lord Jesus. Faith is not merely intellectual agreement. It is trust placed in the person and name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The early believers understood this clearly. They preached boldly about Him and were not ashamed of His name.
The apostle Paul wrote:
“I am not ashamed of the gospel… for it is the power of the Lord Jesus unto salvation to everyone that believes.” — Romans 1:16
The message of salvation is centered on the Lord Jesus. Remove His name, and the gospel loses its power.
The Importance of Teaching the Scriptures
Paul reminded Timothy of something vital:
“From childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation.” — 2 Timothy 3:15
The Scriptures guide us toward salvation because they reveal the Lord Jesus Christ.
Children, young people, and adults all need to learn the Word of the Lord Jesus. Without the Scriptures, confusion grows. With the Scriptures, truth becomes clear.
That is why comparing passages together is so powerful. Genesis points to the Creator. Isaiah confirms the Lord created alone. John reveals that the Creator who came into the world is the Lord Jesus Christ.
The message becomes unmistakable.
A Concerning Trend Among Many Christians
Unfortunately, a troubling trend is becoming common today.
Some young people identify as Christians but rarely speak the name of the Lord Jesus. Conversations about faith sometimes last many minutes without mentioning Him even once.
This is surprising because Christianity is not simply a philosophy or moral system. It is centered on a person, the Lord Jesus Christ.
If we remove His name from our speech, our faith begins to lose its focus.
The early believers constantly spoke about the Lord Jesus. They preached His name, prayed in His name, and trusted His name.
His name was their hope, their message, and their salvation.
The Final Words of the Bible
The last verse of the Bible reminds us of what truly matters:
“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.” — Revelation 22:21
Notice how the entire Bible ends—with the name Lord Jesus Christ.
This is not accidental. From the beginning to the end of Scripture, the Lord Jesus stands at the center of the message.
He is the Creator, the Redeemer, and the Savior.
Conclusion: Speak the Name That Saves
When we compare Scripture with Scripture, the conclusion becomes clear.
The Creator of Genesis, the Lord of Isaiah, and the One revealed in John are the same, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, believers should never be ashamed to speak His name.
His name brings salvation. His name brings grace. His name brings life.
May we boldly proclaim the name above every name, the Lord Jesus Christ.
