Washed and Made New: Returning to the True Gospel
The Scripture warns us that there is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, yet not washed from its filthiness. This truth is both sobering and urgent. Many people believe they are right with the Lord Jesus, yet they have not fully obeyed the message of salvation clearly revealed in the New Testament. Therefore, it is vital to understand what it truly means to be cleansed and made new.
The Clear Message of the Gospel
First and foremost, the New Testament plainly teaches the path to salvation. We must believe the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, repent of our sins, be baptized in His name for the remission of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. This is not a suggestion or a tradition, it is the foundation of the apostolic message.
Some claim that this message was only for the Jews. However, that idea is completely incorrect. The gospel was commanded to be preached to every person. That includes both Jews and Gentiles. In fact, every person born into this world, except the Lord Jesus Christ and John the Baptist, who was filled with the Holy Ghost from his mother’s womb, as born in sin.
As Scripture teaches, the wages of sin is death. This condition began with Adam and has passed to all humanity. Yet there is hope. The Bible declares that in Adam all die, but in the Lord Jesus Christ all shall be made alive.
Dying to Sin and Rising Again
When someone hears and truly believes the gospel, a transformation begins. That person becomes dead to sin. Then, through baptism, they are buried with the Lord Jesus Christ. This burial is symbolic, yet powerful. It represents the end of the old life.
Afterward, they rise to walk in newness of life. They become a new creature with new desires, new purpose, and a renewed heart. This is not merely a religious act, it is a spiritual rebirth. This is what the Bible teaches, and it is essential for salvation.
The Danger of Leaving the Foundation
Unfortunately, many have moved away from this original foundation. Instead of following the teachings of the apostles, they rely on their own interpretations. As a result, they miss the true washing away of sins.
This kind of teaching is not from the Lord Jesus. In fact, it aligns with what Scripture calls the teaching of the tares. The Lord Jesus described this as the work of an enemy. That enemy is Satan the father of lies, who constantly seeks to imitate truth while leading people away from it.
Because of this deception, the world is filled with confusion. There are many denominations, all claiming to be right. Yet this confusion is not from truth, it is what the Bible describes as “mystery Babylon,” a system that has misled many.
Understanding the Confusion
The book of Revelation describes this system as spreading a doctrine that has intoxicated the world. Many teachings have distorted the true nature of the Lord Jesus and the message of salvation.
For example, some present the Lord Jesus in ways that divide His identity, creating confusion instead of clarity. However, the Scriptures consistently point us back to one truth: there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one Spirit, and one hope of eternal life.
When people reject the clear teachings found in passages like Acts 2:38, Acts 10, Acts 19, Romans 6, and 1 Peter 3:21, they step away from the original gospel. Yet these scriptures, along with many others, consistently affirm the same message of obedience and transformation.
One Way, One Truth, One Life
The Bible does not present multiple paths to salvation. Instead, it reveals one clear way. There is one Lord Jesus, and through Him comes eternal life. Therefore, it is crucial to remain rooted in the truth given by the apostles.
True salvation is not based on feelings, traditions, or personal opinions. Rather, it is grounded in obedience to the Word. When we follow the gospel as it was originally preached, we experience true cleansing and renewal.
A Call to Action
Now is the time to respond. Do not delay or remain comfortable in your own understanding. Instead, take action.
Repent of your sins. Arise and be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Call upon His name and be washed clean. Do not consider yourself pure if you have not obeyed the truth.
The invitation is open, but the responsibility is personal.
