Willing to Seek Him: How the Lord Jesus Christ Guides Us After Failure
Yet, that struggle is not new.
King David faced the same problem. Although he loved the Lord deeply, he drifted into laziness, temptation, and terrible sin. However, his story did not end in destruction. Instead, it became a powerful testimony of repentance, forgiveness, and restoration.
In this article, you will discover:
- Why David fell spiritually
- How unchecked desires can destroy peace
- What Psalm 32 teaches about forgiveness
- How the Lord Jesus Christ guides those who seek Him
- Practical ways to seek Him daily again
Most importantly, you will learn that no failure is too great when you are willing to seek Him.
When We Stop Seeking the Lord Jesus Christ
The story of David and Bathsheba in 2 Samuel is painful to read. David was not an ordinary man. He was a king chosen by the Lord. He had seen miracles, victories, and divine protection throughout his life.
Yet, everything changed when he stopped doing what he was called to do.
Instead of leading his army into battle, David stayed home. At first, that decision may have seemed harmless. However, idle moments often create dangerous opportunities.
While walking on his rooftop, David saw Bathsheba bathing. Instead of turning away, he entertained temptation. Then temptation became adultery. Afterward, adultery became deception. Finally, deception became murder.
Sin rarely destroys a life in one moment. Instead, it grows step by step when people stop seeking the Lord Jesus Christ for wisdom and strength.
Many believers still struggle with this today.
Some stop praying consistently. Others slowly drift from Scripture. Meanwhile, some rely more on feelings than obedience. Eventually, confusion replaces clarity.
That is why seeking the Lord Jesus Christ daily matters so much.
The Pain of Hidden Sin
After David sinned, he tried to hide it. However, hidden sin always carries a heavy cost.
In Psalm 51, David poured out his anguish before the Lord. His words reveal brokenness, shame, and deep sorrow. He understood that sin had damaged his fellowship with the Lord.
Likewise, many people today feel spiritually exhausted because they are carrying hidden burdens.
Some hide addiction. Others hide bitterness, pride, or secret compromise. Outwardly, they smile. Inwardly, they feel distant from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Yet, silence never heals the soul.
David finally experienced freedom when he confessed his sin instead of covering it.
That is the turning point every believer must reach.
Psalm 32: The Joy of Forgiveness
After repentance came restoration. That is where Psalm 32 becomes so powerful.
David no longer speaks only of pain. Instead, he celebrates mercy.
He explains the blessing of forgiveness and the freedom that confession brings. Then something remarkable happens in verse 8. The speaker changes.
Suddenly, the Lord begins speaking directly:
“I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with my eye on you, I will give counsel.”
That shift matters deeply.
David originally fell because he ignored divine instruction. He trusted his own desires instead of seeking the Lord Jesus Christ. However, after repentance restored fellowship, the Lord responded with guidance, teaching, and loving counsel.
What a beautiful picture of grace.
The Lord Jesus Christ does not abandon repentant hearts. Instead, He lovingly leads them forward again.
The Problem With Self-Will
Many people want the blessings of the Lord without surrendering control.
That was David’s struggle for a season.
He wanted comfort instead of responsibility. He followed desire instead of wisdom. Consequently, destruction followed.
Unfortunately, modern culture encourages the same mindset.
People hear phrases like:
- “Follow your heart.”
- “Do what feels right.”
- “Live your truth.”
However, feelings alone cannot guide a soul safely.
The heart needs the wisdom of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Without His instruction, people wander into relationships, habits, and decisions that bring pain. Then they wonder why peace disappeared.
Seeking Him protects us from unnecessary destruction.
The Lord Jesus Christ Still Guides His People
One of the greatest promises in Psalm 32 is that the Lord actively guides His people.
When we do not know where to go, He instructs us.
When we feel weak, He teaches us.
When we feel alone, He counsels us.
That guidance is personal. It is not cold, distant, or mechanical. Instead, the Lord Jesus Christ sees every detail of your life.
He knows:
- Your fears
- Your past mistakes
- Your current struggles
- Your future challenges
Still, He lovingly says, “I will instruct you.”
That truth brings incredible comfort.
How to Seek the Lord Jesus Christ Daily
Seeking the Lord Jesus Christ is not complicated. However, it does require intentional surrender.
1. Spend Daily Time in Scripture
The Bible renews the mind and reveals truth. Even a few focused minutes each day can change your spiritual direction.
2. Pray Honestly
David stopped pretending when he repented. Likewise, honest prayer restores fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. Obey Quickly
Delayed obedience often opens the door to compromise. Therefore, act quickly when the Lord convicts your heart.
4. Remove Spiritual Distractions
Sometimes people cannot hear the Lord clearly because everything else is louder.
5. Stay Humble
Pride resists correction. Humility welcomes instruction.
The Lord Jesus Christ guides teachable hearts.
A Modern Example of Restoration
A young man once served faithfully in church. However, after career success came, his priorities changed. Slowly, prayer disappeared. Scripture reading stopped. Eventually, secret sin entered his life.
For years, he carried guilt silently.
Then one night, he read Psalm 32. David’s words pierced his heart. Instead of hiding any longer, he confessed his sin to the Lord Jesus Christ and sought accountability.
Over time, peace returned.
His situation did not change overnight. However, his fellowship with the Lord was restored immediately.
That is the power of repentance.
