Waiting Well: How to Trust the Lord Jesus Christ When Life Feels Stuck

Have You Been Waiting So Long That You’re Starting to Wonder If Anything Will Ever Change?

Perhaps you’ve been praying for a breakthrough. Maybe you’re waiting for healing, restoration, a new opportunity, financial provision, or an answer that never seems to come.

Meanwhile, life keeps moving. Others appear to be getting ahead. Doors open for them while yours remain closed.

As a Christian writer and Bible teacher, I’ve spent years studying how the Lord Jesus Christ works through seasons of waiting. One truth appears repeatedly throughout Scripture: the greatest blessings often develop in the waiting room.

In this article, you’ll discover why waiting feels so difficult, what the Bible teaches about God’s timing, how biblical heroes waited well, and practical steps you can take today to strengthen your faith while you wait.

Most importantly, you’ll learn that even when you can’t see movement, the Lord Jesus Christ is still working.

Why Waiting Is So Hard

Let’s be honest.

Most of us want immediate answers.

We expect fast internet, instant messages, same-day delivery, and quick results. Therefore, when prayers seem delayed, frustration can quickly set in.

Yet nature reminds us that growth takes time.

A seed doesn’t become a harvest overnight.

A baby doesn’t become an adult in a week.

A tree doesn’t provide shade the day it’s planted.

Likewise, spiritual growth often requires waiting.

Unfortunately, many people assume that waiting means nothing is happening. However, Scripture teaches the exact opposite.

Waiting is often where the Lord Jesus Christ does some of His deepest work in our hearts.

Waiting Is Not Wasted Time

One of the biggest mistakes Christians make is believing that waiting equals inactivity.

However, biblical waiting is active trust.

While we wait, we can continue growing, serving, praying, learning, and worshiping.

In fact, waiting seasons often prepare us for future assignments.

Consider an athlete preparing for a championship. Long before the big event arrives, countless hours are spent training behind the scenes.

Similarly, the Lord Jesus Christ often prepares us in private before promoting us publicly.

Therefore, what feels like a delay may actually be preparation.

David’s Powerful Lesson About Waiting

King David understood waiting better than most people.

Although he was anointed to be king while still young, many years passed before he actually sat on the throne.

During those years, David faced danger, uncertainty, and opposition.

Yet he learned an important lesson:

“Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14 NLT)

Notice something remarkable.

David repeated the command twice.

Why?

Because waiting requires courage.

Anyone can trust when answers arrive immediately. However, faith grows strongest when we trust the Lord Jesus Christ during uncertainty.

Biblical Examples of People Who Waited Well

Noah Waited While Building

Noah spent decades building the ark before the flood arrived.

Day after day, he worked faithfully.

Although he couldn’t see the outcome, he trusted the Lord’s promise.

As a result, his obedience preserved his family.

Ruth Waited While Working

After losing her husband, Ruth faced an uncertain future.

Nevertheless, she continued serving, working, and trusting.

Instead of giving up, she remained faithful.

Eventually, the Lord Jesus Christ provided exactly what she needed.

Joseph Waited While Suffering

Joseph received a dream from the Lord. Yet before that dream came true, he experienced betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment.

For years, it seemed as though nothing was happening.

However, the Lord Jesus Christ was positioning Joseph for a greater purpose.

Eventually, Joseph became second-in-command of Egypt and saved countless lives.

John Waited While Exiled

The Apostle John spent time isolated on the island of Patmos.

From a human perspective, his ministry appeared limited.

Yet during that season, he received revelations that became part of the New Testament.

Therefore, even isolation became an opportunity for divine purpose.

The Problem With Impatience

Impatience often causes people to make costly mistakes.

For example, someone waiting for the right job may settle for the wrong one.

Someone waiting for a relationship may compromise their values.

Someone waiting for direction may rush ahead without seeking the Lord Jesus Christ.

Consequently, impatience can lead us away from the very blessing we’re seeking.

That is why trusting the Lord’s timing matters so much.

His timing is always wiser than our schedules.

How to Wait Well: 5 Practical Steps

1. Stay Connected Through Prayer

First, keep talking with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer reminds us that we are not carrying our burdens alone.

Even when answers seem delayed, communication keeps our faith strong.

2. Read Scripture Daily

Next, fill your heart with truth.

The Bible provides countless reminders of the Lord’s faithfulness.

Therefore, reading Scripture helps replace fear with confidence.

3. Look for His Fingerprints

Then, pay attention to everyday blessings.

A conversation, an unexpected opportunity, or a small answer to prayer may reveal that the Lord Jesus Christ is already at work.

4. Continue Serving Others

Additionally, focus on helping people around you.

Serving shifts our attention away from frustration and toward purpose.

As a result, waiting becomes more meaningful.

5. Practice Gratitude

Finally, thank the Lord Jesus Christ for what He has already done.

Gratitude changes perspective.

Instead of focusing only on what is missing, you begin noticing what has already been provided.

Remember: Closed Doors Don’t Mean Abandoned Plans

Many believers assume that a closed door means the Lord Jesus Christ has forgotten them.

However, that isn’t true.

Sometimes a closed door protects us.

Sometimes it redirects us.

And sometimes it simply means “not yet.”

Therefore, don’t confuse a delay with a denial.

The Lord Jesus Christ sees the entire picture while we see only a small part.

A Simple Story About Waiting

Imagine a farmer who plants seeds in a field.

The next morning, he sees nothing.

A week later, he still sees little evidence of growth.

Yet beneath the soil, something important is happening.

Roots are developing.

Strength is forming.

Life is growing.

Likewise, many of the Lord Jesus Christ’s greatest works happen beneath the surface before they become visible.

Just because you cannot see movement doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

Even When You’re Waiting, the Lord Jesus Christ Is Working

Perhaps you’re waiting for healing.

Perhaps you’re waiting for provision.

Perhaps you’re waiting for restoration.

Or perhaps you’re waiting for a dream to become reality.

Whatever you’re facing today, remember this truth:

The Lord Jesus Christ has not forgotten you.

He is still working.

He is still guiding.

He is still preparing.

And He is still faithful.

Therefore, take courage.

Keep praying.

Keep trusting.

Keep serving.

Keep believing.

Because when you rely on the Lord Jesus Christ, you can become someone who waits well.
