Peace Wherever Possible: Living a Holy Life That Reflects the Lord Jesus Christ
Have You Lost Your Peace?
Have you ever replayed an argument over and over in your mind? Perhaps someone hurt you deeply. Maybe they betrayed your trust, spread lies about you, or refused to apologize. As a result, you have tried to move on, yet the pain keeps returning.
Meanwhile, many believers struggle with the same problem. They sincerely love the Lord Jesus Christ, yet they carry bitterness that steals their joy and weakens their witness. Consequently, their relationships suffer, their prayers feel empty, and their hearts become restless.
Today, we will discover what the Bible teaches about peace wherever possible, holy living, and Christian forgiveness. More importantly, we will learn practical steps to experience lasting peace while reflecting the character of the Lord Jesus Christ in every relationship.
What Does Holy Living Really Look Like?
Many people believe holiness only means avoiding obvious sins. However, biblical holiness reaches much deeper than outward behavior.
Instead, holy living means choosing to obey the Word of the Lord Jesus Christ every day. It means saying “no” to sinful desires. It also means admitting our failures, asking for forgiveness, and allowing the Lord Jesus Christ to transform our hearts.
Furthermore, holy living changes how we speak, think, forgive, and treat other people. In other words, holiness is visible.
When people watch our lives, they should see kindness instead of revenge. They should notice patience instead of anger. Above all, they should recognize the love of the Lord Jesus Christ working through us.
Running the Race With Endurance
The writer of Hebrews understood that holy living is not easy.
Hebrews 12:1-2 says:
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…”
First, notice that we are told to lay aside every weight. Sometimes those weights are obvious sins. However, they can also include resentment, pride, jealousy, and unforgiveness.
Imagine running a marathon while carrying a heavy backpack full of rocks. Eventually, you would become exhausted. Likewise, bitterness weighs down the soul.
Therefore, the Lord Jesus Christ invites us to let go of everything that keeps us from running faithfully.
The Lord Jesus Christ Is the Source of Peace
Later, Hebrews describes the Lord Jesus Christ as the source of peace.
Because He is holy, He calls His followers to become peacemakers.
Living in peace does not mean pretending problems do not exist. Likewise, it does not require approving sinful behavior. Instead, it means making every reasonable effort to pursue reconciliation, forgiveness, and healing whenever possible.
Sometimes peace requires difficult conversations.
Sometimes peace requires humility.
Sometimes peace requires walking away from unnecessary conflict.
Nevertheless, peace always reflects the heart of the Lord Jesus Christ.
A Story That Could Be Yours
Several years ago, a man in a local church was deeply hurt when another believer falsely accused him during a ministry meeting.
Naturally, he became angry.
For months, he stopped speaking to the other man. Every worship service became uncomfortable. Eventually, even his family noticed that his joy had disappeared.
One Sunday, the pastor preached about forgiveness.
Although the pain remained, the man realized something important. His bitterness was hurting him more than the person who had offended him.
After much prayer, he asked to meet privately.
Instead of arguing, he calmly shared how deeply he had been wounded. Surprisingly, the other believer admitted his mistake and sincerely apologized.
Not every story ends this way. Yet both men experienced something priceless.
They found peace.
More importantly, the church witnessed the love of the Lord Jesus Christ in action.
Why Anger Is So Dangerous
Anger itself is not always sinful. However, unresolved anger quickly becomes bitterness.
Bitterness quietly grows inside the heart.
Eventually, it damages marriages.
It destroys friendships.
It divides churches.
It weakens families.
Most importantly, it hides the beautiful character of the Lord Jesus Christ from those watching our lives.
When people see constant anger, they struggle to see the transforming power of the Gospel.
However, when they witness forgiveness, they see hope.
Peace Does Not Mean Weakness
Some believers mistakenly think forgiveness means allowing people to continue hurting them.
That is not biblical peace.
Instead, peace and wisdom work together.
You can forgive someone while maintaining healthy boundaries.
You can love someone without approving sinful behavior.
You can seek reconciliation while still speaking the truth in love.
The Lord Jesus Christ demonstrated both grace and truth throughout His earthly ministry.
Therefore, we should follow His example.
Practical Ways to Live in Peace Wherever Possible
If you want to experience biblical peace, begin with these simple steps.
Pray Before You React
First, pause before responding.
Prayer calms emotions and allows the Holy Spirit to guide your words.
Choose Forgiveness Daily
Forgiveness is often a decision before it becomes a feeling.
Therefore, choose obedience even when emotions lag behind.
Speak With Grace
Next, replace harsh words with gentle ones.
Kind words often open doors that angry words permanently close.
Seek Reconciliation
Whenever possible, meet privately with the person involved.
Listen carefully.
Speak honestly.
Aim for restoration instead of winning an argument.
Keep Looking to Jesus
Finally, remember Hebrews 12.
Fix your eyes on Jesus.
The more you focus on Him, the more your heart becomes like His.
Holy Living Becomes Your Greatest Witness
People notice peace.
They notice kindness.
They notice forgiveness.
They notice humility.
These qualities make the Gospel visible.
Your neighbors may never read a Bible.
However, they will read your life every day.
When they see peace instead of revenge, they catch a glimpse of the Lord Jesus Christ living within you.
That is the beauty of holy living.
Your Next Step
Today, ask yourself these questions.
Is there someone I need to forgive?
Am I holding on to bitterness?
Have I allowed anger to replace peace?
What relationship needs healing?
Do not wait another day.
Take one step toward peace wherever possible.
The Lord Jesus Christ can heal broken hearts, restore damaged relationships, and fill your life with His perfect peace.
As you pursue holiness and forgiveness, your life will become a living testimony of His transforming power.
May others see the Lord Jesus Christ in you because you chose peace over pride, forgiveness over bitterness, and holiness over selfishness.
That is the kind of life that truly honors the Lord Jesus Christ.
