He Will Lead the Way
Have you ever reached a point where you simply did not know what to do next? Perhaps you were facing a major decision, entering a new season, or watching someone you trusted step away from a role they had carried for years. Suddenly, the future looked uncertain.
I have learned that one of the greatest mistakes we can make is believing that everything depends on us. When we focus only on our abilities, our problems can look bigger than they really are. However, when we look to the Lord Jesus Christ, we can move forward with confidence because He will lead the way.
Today, let us learn from Moses and Joshua. Their story teaches us how to face change, uncertainty, and responsibility without fear. Most importantly, it reminds us that our confidence does not come from having all the answers. Our confidence comes from knowing that the Lord Jesus Christ goes before us.
Moses Had to Let Go
Moses had led Israel for forty years. He had experienced incredible victories and difficult challenges.
He led the people out of Egyptian slavery. He stood before Pharaoh. He watched the Red Sea open before Israel. He received the Ten Commandments. He endured complaints, rebellion, fear, and unbelief.
Yet eventually, Moses reached the end of his journey.
The time came for him to hand leadership to Joshua.
Imagine how Joshua must have felt. He was about to lead a large nation into an unfamiliar future. Moses had been the person Israel looked to for direction. Now Joshua would have to step forward.
However, Moses did not tell Joshua, “Everything depends on you.”
Instead, Moses pointed Joshua toward the One who would never leave him.
That lesson still matters today.
The Lord Jesus Goes Before You
Moses told Joshua:
“And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”
—Deuteronomy 31:8, KJV
Notice the order.
The Lord went before Joshua.
The Lord would be with Joshua.
The Lord would not fail Joshua.
The Lord would not forsake Joshua.
Therefore, Joshua did not have to live in fear.
That same principle can strengthen us today. When the Lord Jesus Christ leads the way, we do not have to know everything that lies ahead.
We simply need to trust the One who already knows.
Stop Looking Only at the Problem
Sometimes our biggest problem is not the situation itself. Instead, our biggest problem is where we are looking.
When Peter walked on the water, he succeeded while his attention remained on Jesus. However, when he focused on the wind and waves, fear took over.
Matthew 14:30 says:
“But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.”
Peter’s circumstances had not suddenly become impossible. Instead, his focus changed.
The same thing can happen to us.
We may face financial pressure. We may experience family problems. We may encounter uncertainty at work. We may enter a new season of life. We may even feel unprepared for a responsibility placed before us.
Yet the Lord Jesus Christ remains greater than the situation.
Therefore, instead of asking only, “How am I going to handle this?” we should also ask, “Lord Jesus, where are You leading me?”
That question changes our perspective.
He Can Lead You Through Uncertainty
Think about driving at night.
You cannot see the entire road. You can only see as far as your headlights allow.
Nevertheless, you keep driving.
Why?
Because you trust that the road continues beyond what you can see.
Walking with the Lord Jesus can feel similar.
He may not show you the entire plan at once. Instead, He may give you enough light for the next step.
Psalm 119:105 says:
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Therefore, do not become discouraged simply because you cannot see everything.
You do not need tomorrow’s answers to obey today’s direction.
Your Leadership Does Not Depend Only on You
Moses was an important leader, but Moses was not the reason Israel survived.
The Lord Jesus Christ was.
Moses understood that his departure did not mean the mission had to end.
That truth is important for parents, pastors, teachers, business leaders, community leaders, and anyone serving others.
Sometimes we think, “If I stop, everything will fall apart.”
However, that is not always true.
The Lord Jesus Christ can raise another Joshua.
He can prepare another leader.
He can open another door.
He can provide another opportunity.
He can continue the work even after our assignment changes.
Consequently, we should serve faithfully without believing that everything depends on us.
What Should You Do When You Do Not Know the Way?
First, pray before you panic.
When uncertainty appears, take your concerns to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 4:6-7 teaches us to bring our requests before Him with prayer and thanksgiving. As a result, His peace can guard our hearts and minds.
Second, follow His Word.
The Bible gives us principles for making wise decisions. Therefore, do not allow fear to become your guide.
Third, take the next right step.
You may not know what will happen six months from now. However, you can choose faithfulness today.
Fourth, refuse discouragement.
Moses specifically told Joshua not to fear or become discouraged.
Why?
Because discouragement can make us abandon the assignment before we see the outcome.
Finally, remember who goes before you.
The Lord Jesus Christ is not standing behind you wondering what will happen.
He already knows the way.
A Personal Challenge
Perhaps you are entering your own “Joshua season.”
Someone may have left.
Your responsibilities may have changed.
You may have started a new job.
Your family may be entering a different season.
You may be facing a decision that makes you uncomfortable.
Whatever your situation may be, remember this:
You do not have to know everything when you know who is leading you.
Therefore, stop allowing uncertainty to steal your peace.
Stop believing that you must solve everything today.
Stop measuring your future by what you can see right now.
Instead, trust the Lord Jesus Christ.
He will lead the way.
Remember These Three Truths
When the future feels uncertain, remember three simple truths.
He goes before me.
I may not see what is coming, but the Lord Jesus Christ already knows the way.
He is with me.
I may feel alone, but I am never abandoned.
He will not forsake me.
My circumstances may change, but the Lord Jesus Christ remains faithful.
Therefore, I can move forward with faith.

He did not tell Joshua to depend on his own strength.
He did not tell Joshua that leadership would be easy.
He did not promise that Israel would never face another challenge.
Instead, he reminded Joshua that the Lord would go before him.
That is enough.
Today, you may not know what tomorrow holds. However, you can know who holds your future.
So, take the next step.
Pray.
Trust.
Obey.
Keep moving forward.
When the road looks uncertain, remember that you are not walking it alone.
The Lord Jesus Christ goes before you. He is with you. He will not fail you. He will not forsake you.
Therefore, do not be afraid.
Do not be discouraged.
He will lead the way.
