Between Two Kingdoms: Living for God in a Broken World

Have you ever felt like you don’t fully belong in this world? You try to live for God, but everything around you seems broken, messy, or even dark. You’re not alone in this struggle.

In fact, the Bible makes it clear: we are living between two kingdoms. This tension explains the spiritual battle you often feel inside. And that’s exactly why understanding where you stand can change how you live every day.

As someone who has walked this journey, studied the Scriptures, and helped others walk through the same struggle, I want to show you how you can live fully for God while waiting for His kingdom to be fully revealed.

The Reality of Two Kingdoms

Let’s start with some truth from Scripture. Colossians 1:13 says, “He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.” This verse reveals a powerful shift.

Before knowing Jesus, we all lived under the kingdom of darkness. That means our lives were marked by sin, shame, and separation from God. It was like living in a house with no light—stumbling around, trying to make sense of life.

Then Jesus came. He didn’t just visit, He brought a new kingdom with Him. A kingdom full of light, hope, and purpose.

Living in the “In-Between”

Even though we are now part of God’s kingdom, we still live in a fallen world. That’s where the struggle begins. You’ve been rescued, but you’re not home yet. You live between what is and what’s to come.

This is why you still face temptation, pain, and confusion. But the good news is, you’re not stuck. You’ve been given a new way to live. You are not a citizen of darkness anymore. You belong to Jesus.

Just like the early church, we are waiting for Jesus to return and make all things new. Until then, we’re called to be His light in this dark world.

Your Role in Expanding God’s Kingdom

Jesus didn’t leave us in the dark about our mission. He gave us clear instructions in Matthew 28:18-20. He told us to go and make disciples. That’s not just for pastors or missionaries—it’s for you too.

Every time you share Jesus, show love, or speak truth, you expand His kingdom. You don’t need a stage or a platform. You just need a willing heart.

Let me share a story.

A Real Example:
Sarah, a young woman in her twenties, worked in a secular office. Most of her coworkers didn’t believe in God. But instead of preaching sermons, she chose to live differently. She prayed for her team. She listened when they hurt. She stayed kind even when others weren’t. Eventually, one coworker asked, “Why are you so different?” That opened the door for Sarah to share her faith. One conversation led to another, and that coworker began attending church.

You see, it’s not about big gestures. It’s about small, faithful steps.

How to Walk Boldly Between Two Kingdoms

So how can you live well in this tension? Start with these steps:

  1. Stay Rooted in God’s Word – Let His truth guide your choices.

  2. Pray Boldly and Often – Prayer connects you to the King.

  3. Love Without Limits – Love like Jesus, even when it’s hard.

  4. Tell Your Story – Share how Jesus changed your life.

  5. Live with Purpose – Every day is a chance to reflect God’s light.
