Defending the Original Gospel Message of the Lord Jesus

Defending the Gospel Once Delivered

“I am set for the defense of the Gospel once delivered to the saints.” This conviction still echoes today. It calls every believer to stand firm in truth. The Gospel was first preached at Jerusalem by the Apostle Peter, who was given the keys of the Kingdom by the Lord Jesus. Through him, a foundation was laid, one that cannot be changed, altered, or replaced by anyone.

Moreover, the apostles who stood with Peter were united in one accord. The record in Scripture tells us they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine. That unity and consistency matter. It shows that the message was not divided, but firmly established from the very beginning.

A Warning About Departure from the Faith

However, as time passed, a warning came through the Apostle Paul, who was sent to the Gentile nations. He declared that some would depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. Sadly, this was not just a future possibility; it has happened and continues to happen even now.

Today, many voices claim to preach truth, yet not all remain rooted in the original foundation. As I recently encountered while scrolling online, a preacher boldly claimed that those who believe and preach Acts 2:38 would be condemned. This statement is deeply troubling because it contradicts the very message first delivered.

In fact, such teaching reveals a departure from the foundation laid by the apostles. When someone rejects what was established at the beginning, they are not building on truth—they are moving away from it.

The Original Gospel Message

Let us return to what the Lord Jesus Himself commanded. In Mark 16:16, He instructed His disciples to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. He clearly stated that those who believe and are baptized shall be saved, but those who do not believe shall be condemned.

Furthermore, this Gospel began at Jerusalem. The message was clear: repentance and remission of sins in the name of the Lord Jesus. On the day of Pentecost, Peter preached this very message. He called people to repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

This was not a suggestion. It was a command rooted in divine authority.

Authority Given by the Lord Jesus

Importantly, Peter did not act on his own authority. The Lord Jesus told him that whatever he bound on earth would be bound in heaven, and whatever he loosed on earth would be loosed in heaven. This means the message Peter preached carried heavenly authority.

Therefore, when we compare Scripture with Scripture, and actions with outcomes, we see a consistent pattern. The foundation laid on the day of Pentecost remains unchanged to the very end of the world.

One Gospel for All Nations

Some claim that the message given to the Gentiles is different from the one given to the Jews. However, this idea does not hold up when examined through Scripture. The Gospel is one message for all people.

In fact, Acts chapters 8, 10, and 19 confirm the same pattern of repentance, baptism, and receiving the Holy Ghost. These accounts serve as multiple witnesses, fulfilling the Scriptural principle that every word is established by two or three witnesses.

Therefore, the claim that there is a different Gospel for different groups is not supported by the Word. It is a misunderstanding that leads people away from truth.

A Call to Examine the Message

Because of this, it is important to carefully examine what we hear. Not every message comes from above. Some teachings, though persuasive, do not align with the foundation laid by the apostles.

While every person may seem right in their own eyes, it is the counsel of the Lord Jesus that stands firm. Truth does not change based on opinion or popularity.

The Essential Elements of Salvation

Scripture makes it clear that certain elements are essential for salvation. No one can be saved without repentance. No one can receive remission of sins without obedience. And no one can walk in truth without faith in the preached Word.

These are not optional steps. They are part of the Gospel that was established from the beginning.

Therefore, what was set in motion at the start must continue to the end. It is the responsibility of every believer to obey and uphold this truth.
