Be the Example: How to Lead with Faith at Any Age

You’re Not Too Young or Too Old, You’re Right on Time

Have you ever felt too young or maybe too old to make a difference? Maybe you’ve told yourself you’re too inexperienced, too small, or simply not equipped for the task at hand.

That feeling is more common than you think.

But here’s the truth: God doesn’t see age the way we do. He doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called. And if you’re breathing, then you’re called. You have something to offer.

That’s not just motivational fluff. It’s biblical truth.

Let’s dive into what the Bible says and how it applies to your life right now.

The Message of 1 Timothy 4:12

Paul wrote to a young leader named Timothy. Timothy had great responsibility, but he was also likely intimidated. People looked down on him simply because he was young. But Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, told him this:

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” – 1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)

This wasn’t just a pep talk. It was a clear calling.

Timothy was called to lead, not by age, title, or rank but by example.

And so are you.

If You Feel Too Young…

Maybe you’re still in school. Or just starting your career. Maybe you’re passionate, but people brush off your ideas.

Don’t let that stop you.

God loves using the young. David defeated Goliath as a teen. Mary was a young girl when she gave birth to Jesus. Josiah became king at just eight years old and still led with righteousness.

What do you bring to the table? Your passion, your vision, your energy, and your faith.

You see things others don’t see. That perspective matters. Let it drive you to live as an example not just of youth, but of faith.

If You Feel Too Old…

Maybe you think your best years are behind you. Or you’ve watched younger people step into roles you once held.

Don’t believe the lie that your time is over.

Moses didn’t lead the Israelites out of Egypt until he was 80. Abraham became a father at 100. Anna, an elderly prophetess, was one of the first to recognize the baby Jesus as the Messiah.

Your wisdom matters. Your years have equipped you with strength, discernment, and deep faith.

That’s exactly what the world needs.

The Power of Your Example

Paul didn’t tell Timothy to win arguments or dominate conversations. He told him to live a life worth imitating. Let’s break down the five areas Paul mentioned:

1. Speech

Are your words building people up or tearing them down? Kind, truthful, and faith-filled speech changes lives.

2. Conduct

People watch how you behave more than what you say. Choose integrity. Lead with humility.

3. Love

Real love is selfless, sacrificial, and active. It listens, gives, and forgives.

4. Faith

Faith isn’t just believing it’s living like God’s Word is true. Be the one who trusts God even in the storm.

5. Purity

Purity isn’t just about sex it’s about having a clean heart, pure motives, and a mind focused on God.

These five qualities are not about perfection. They’re about pursuit. The pursuit of a life that honors Jesus.

God Wants to Use You Right Now

It doesn’t matter if you’re 16 or 60, working in an office or raising kids, preaching from a pulpit or driving a school bus. You can live a life that points people to Jesus.

That’s what it means to be the example.

You don’t have to be loud. You don’t need a title. You just need to be faithful.
