The Everlasting Love of God

When Fear Creeps In

Have you ever wondered if God still loves you after you’ve messed up again?

Many believers secretly wrestle with the fear that God’s love is conditional. They fear they’ve fallen too far, failed too much, or wandered too long. This painful lie keeps people stuck in shame and striving.

As a Christian blogger and teacher, I’ve talked with many believers who feel unworthy of God’s love. But let me reassure you, God’s love is not based on your performance. It is based on His perfect nature.

So, what does that mean for you today?

Doubting God’s love is something many believers experience at different points in their walk with Jeshua. It often stems from human struggles and misunderstandings, pain, guilt, and the pressures of life can cloud the truth we know in Scripture. Here are some of the most common reasons people doubt God’s love:

1. Past Mistakes and Sin

One major cause is guilt over past sins.

Even though the Bible assures us of full forgiveness through Christ (1 John 1:9), we often hold on to shame longer than God does. We think, “If I can’t forgive myself, how could God?” This leads us to falsely believe that His love has limits.

👉 Truth: God’s love isn’t based on your perfection, but on His. Romans 5:8 reminds us that Christ died for us while we were still sinners.

2. Hardship and Suffering

Another big reason is pain.

When life hurts—when a loved one dies, a prayer goes unanswered, or suffering drags on—we may begin to think God has turned His back on us. Pain makes it hard to see clearly.

👉 Truth: Suffering is not a sign of God’s absence. In fact, Jesus promised we would face trouble in this world (John 16:33). But He also promised to be with us through it.

3. Unmet Expectations

Sometimes we doubt God’s love when He doesn’t do what we expect.

Maybe you prayed for healing, a job, or a restored relationship but nothing changed. The silence felt like rejection.

👉 Truth: God’s ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8–9). He may say “no” or “not yet,” not because He doesn’t love you, but because He sees a bigger picture.

4. Negative Self-Image

Low self-worth can make it hard to believe you’re lovable at all.

You may have grown up hearing you weren’t enough. Or maybe you’re battling lies in your own head like, “I’m too broken, too flawed, too unworthy.”

👉 Truth: God’s love is not about your worthiness it’s about His character. You are made in His image and deeply loved just as you are (Psalm 139:14, Romans 8:1).

5. Spiritual Warfare

Lastly, there’s an enemy who wants you to doubt.

Satan’s first tactic with Eve was to make her question God’s goodness (Genesis 3:1). He still whispers lies like, “God doesn’t care about you,” or “You’re beyond His grace.”

👉 Truth: Jesus already won the battle. The enemy’s lies only have power when we believe them. The Word of God is your weapon against doubt (Ephesians 6:17).

Love That Doesn’t Quit

To begin with, you need to know this: God’s love is not like human love.

While people often change their minds, God never does. The Bible clearly says in Romans 8:38–39 that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Not death. Not life. Not angels. Not demons. Not your worst sin or your darkest day.

Paul didn’t write these words lightly. He faced prison, beatings, betrayal, and even shipwreck. Still, he declared God’s love unwavering. That same love covers you.

A Gift You Cannot Earn (or Lose)

Next, let’s talk about grace.

You might feel tempted to earn God’s approval. Maybe you try harder, serve more, or pray longer, thinking He’ll love you more if you do. But that’s not how grace works. Grace is a gift—unearned and undeserved. Ephesians 2:8–9 confirms this truth.

Because you didn’t earn His love, you can’t lose it. That’s incredibly freeing.

What If I Still Fail?

Even if you know this in your mind, your heart might whisper doubts.

What if I sin again? What if I disappoint God? What if I just can’t seem to change?

Here’s the good news: God isn’t surprised by your failures. In fact, Romans 5:8 tells us that Christ died for us while we were still sinners. That means He loved you before you ever turned toward Him.

God’s love doesn’t stop when you mess up. Instead, He draws you back into His arms.

Story Time: From Shame to Security

Take “Alyssa,” for example.

She grew up in church, but after college, she drifted away. Years later, divorced and feeling worthless, she doubted anyone—let alone God—could love her again. But one Sunday, she heard a sermon on God’s everlasting love.

Something clicked. Tears streamed down her face as she realized she was never truly unloved. God had been waiting all along.

Now, she teaches Bible study and shares her story to help others find hope.

So, What Now?

Pause for a moment. Let this truth soak in:

You are loved. Deeply. Unconditionally. Eternally.

There is nothing you can do to make God love you more. And there is nothing you’ve done that makes Him love you less.

Let that truth settle your heart today.

Overcoming Doubt: A Scriptural Guide to Trusting God’s Love

When Doubt Creeps In Everyone experiences doubt, especially in difficult seasons. This devotional guide will help you confront the roots of doubt and replace them with God’s truth. We’ll walk through five common causes of doubt and how to respond to each one with Scripture and prayer.

1. Doubt from Guilt Over Past Sins

Scripture: Romans 8:1 – “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

Truth: If you are in Christ, you are forgiven. God doesn’t keep a record of your wrongs.

Prayer: Lord, help me release the shame I still carry. Remind me that Your grace covers my past completely. Thank You for forgiving me and giving me a new start.

2. Doubt from Hardship and Suffering

Scripture: Romans 8:28 – “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Truth: God never wastes your pain. He is always working behind the scenes for your good.

Prayer: Father, it’s hard to see Your hand in the middle of my suffering. But I choose to trust that You are still with me and working all things for good.

3. Doubt from Unmet Expectations

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Truth: God’s plans often look different than ours, but they are always better.

Prayer: God, I confess I’ve been disappointed when things didn’t go my way. Help me to trust You even when I don’t understand. Teach me to surrender to Your will.

4. Doubt from a Negative Self-Image

Scripture: Psalm 139:14 – “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Truth: You are God’s masterpiece, created with purpose and value.

Prayer: Father, help me see myself the way You see me. Silence the lies that say I’m not enough. Fill my heart with the truth that I am loved and chosen.

5. Doubt from Spiritual Warfare

Scripture: Ephesians 6:11 – “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

Truth: Doubt is one of the enemy’s tactics. But God gives you armor to stand strong.

Prayer: Lord, I put on Your armor today. Guard my mind, shield my heart, and fill me with Your truth. I stand firm in Your love.

Conclusion: God’s Love is Unshakeable You may not always feel God’s love, but that doesn’t make it any less real. His love is deeper than your doubt, stronger than your fear, and more faithful than your feelings. Keep returning to His Word. Keep praying. Keep trusting.

Optional Challenge: Memorize Romans 8:38-39 this week and speak it out loud every time doubt rises in your heart.

You are loved, always.
