How to Keep Trusting God When Life Falls Apart

When Your Plans Fall Apart

Have your plans ever fallen apart overnight? Maybe you thought life would look one way, but now it looks completely different. Maybe you feel disappointed, discouraged, or even angry. You’re not alone. Many people silently ask, “Where is God in all this chaos?”

We all have moments where life takes an unexpected turn. It hurts. It confuses. It shakes our faith. But here’s the good news: God is not surprised by what surprised you. And more importantly, He makes it work.

What Scripture Says About Broken Plans

In Romans 8:28, the Apostle Paul writes something bold. He says:

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28 NLT)

Not some things. Not just the good things. Everything.

Paul wasn’t writing this verse from a cozy cabin or a luxury villa. He was addressing believers facing real hardship, persecution, grief, injustice, fear. Yet, he still declared that God is working behind the scenes.

God Works Even When You Can’t See It

Let’s be real. Maybe you:

  • Lost someone you love
  • Were betrayed by someone you trusted
  • Got a diagnosis that flipped your world upside down
  • Watched a relationship crumble despite your best efforts
  • Put your all into something that didn’t work out

It hurts. But even in the pain, God is not absent.

In fact, God is still moving.

He Works With It All

We often think God only works through perfect people and clean situations. But that’s not true. God uses:

  • The good and the bad
  • The healed and the broken
  • The polished and the messy

Think about Joseph in the Old Testament. His brothers sold him into slavery. He was falsely accused and imprisoned. Yet, God used every painful step to elevate him to a position where he could save a nation.

Nothing is wasted in God’s hands.

Real Life Examples

Consider a woman who lost her job but found her passion in a ministry she never considered.

Or a man who went through divorce, only to discover healing, purpose, and a chance to help others walk through their own pain.

Or maybe it’s you. Maybe you can’t see how this could ever work out. But you will. Maybe not today. Maybe not next month. But God isn’t finished.

What Does This Mean For You Today?

It means your story isn’t over. Your pain isn’t pointless. Your season has a purpose.

Even when you feel hopeless, you can trust that God is still weaving every thread together.

Even when the enemy meant it for evil, God can still use it for good (Genesis 50:20).

Even when you can’t trace His hand, you can trust His heart.

A Mystery Worth Trusting

You might ask, “But how?”

Here’s the thing: we don’t always know. And we won’t always understand. That’s where faith comes in. God is infinite. We are not. His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9).

The mystery of His sovereignty is not a puzzle to solve but a comfort to lean into.

So hold on to Romans 8:28. God makes it work.
