The Pain We Face: A World Divided

Have you ever watched the news and felt overwhelmed by the wars, hatred, and injustices in the world? Conflicts rage in places like Gaza and Ukraine, thousands are dead. The countries are destroyed, and Families suffer. People live in fear. Recently, a devastating earthquake struck Thailand and Myanmar, currently over 1800 deaths, massive destruction, and loss in its wake. In moments like these, we see both the fragility of life and the urgent need for unity. And yet, as Christians, we believe in one God who created us all. If we are one family under Him, why do we continue to turn against each other?

Malachi 2:10 asks the same question: “Have we not all one father? Hath not one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother?” This verse challenges us to reflect on our actions. Are we truly living as brothers and sisters in Christ?

The Root of Division: Why Do We Turn Against Each Other?

From the beginning of time, sin has divided humanity. Cain killed Abel. Nations fought for power. Even today, selfishness, pride, and fear create barriers between people. Politics, culture, and economic differences deepen the divide. Instead of seeing each other as children of God, we see enemies. This shows we are in a spiritual war to keep humanity divided. (Ephesians 6:12) 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

But God never intended for His people to live this way. Jesus called us to love, forgive, and seek peace. This cannot be done naturally; this requires the power of the Holy Ghost. So, how do we start?  We must be born again. When an individual surrenders their life to Christ and receives the gift of the holy ghost, the holy ghost begins to change how they think and act. We begin to see each other a sons and daughters of God.

After we are saved, we begin to Break the Cycle: How We Can Love Like Christ

Recognize Our Shared Identity When we remember that every person is created in God’s image, it changes how we see them. Instead of focusing on differences, we recognize divine worth in each soul.

Choose Forgiveness Over Bitterness. Holding onto anger leads to division. Jesus forgave even those who crucified Him. Can we extend the same grace to those who hurt us?

Seek to Understand, Not Just to Be Right. Listening is powerful. Before judging, take time to understand another person’s perspective. Love grows in places where understanding thrives.

Pray for Peace and Unity. When was the last time you prayed for someone you disagreed with? Prayer softens hearts and invites God to work in ways we cannot.

Be a Peacemaker in Your Community. Start where you are. Speak kindly. Help a neighbor in need. Encourage instead of criticizing. Small actions create ripples of change.

What If We Truly Lived This Out?

Imagine a world where Christians actively sought unity. A world where love outshone hatred. Where churches led communities in healing, not division. This is not just a dream, it is what Christ calls us to do.
