Don’t Worry About Tomorrow: Trusting God for Today
Are You Tired of Worrying About Your Future? Here’s How to Break Free, Starting Today.
Let’s be honest, worry feels natural. In fact, many of us wake up worrying before we even get out of bed.
We worry about money.
We worry about family.
We worry about our health, jobs, and the future.
I know that feeling too well. For years, I let worry take control of my mind. But everything changed when I finally understood what Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:25-26.
Jesus says, “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.” Those words hit me hard. They showed me that worry is a trap, and God has a better way.
Let’s dive deeper together.
Why Worry Feels So Natural
To begin with, worry seems like a reasonable response. After all, you care about your life. You care about your family and your future.
However, here’s the truth, worry doesn’t fix anything.
Jesus points this out clearly. If you could change your future by worrying, you wouldn’t need to worry at all!
Instead, worry becomes a heavy weight. It drags you down and steals your peace. It can even rob you of sleep and health.
Here’s a simple truth:
Worry puts you in control of nothing, but it takes control of everything.
The Problem with Worry
Worry isn’t just exhausting, it’s also ineffective.
Jesus gives us a powerful example in Matthew 6:25-26. He points to the birds in the sky. They don’t plant crops. They don’t store up food. Yet God feeds them every single day.
Now, think about this: Aren’t you more valuable than birds?
Jesus makes it clear, if God takes care of birds and flowers, He will surely take care of you.
The Real Solution: Trust God Completely
It’s hard to stop worrying. But here’s what Jesus offers instead, trust.
Trusting God doesn’t mean ignoring your problems. It simply means you believe He cares and that He’s already working on your behalf.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
Every time I choose to trust God, my heart feels lighter.
One night, I sat on my porch worrying about bills and my future. But I remembered Matthew 6:33, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
That verse became my anchor. Instead of spiraling into anxiety, I prayed, “God, I trust You.”
Suddenly, peace filled my heart. I realized I didn’t have to carry it alone anymore.
How to Stop Worrying About Tomorrow
Now that you see the problem, here’s how you can apply Jesus’ words:
-
Start with Prayer.
Tell God what you’re worried about. He listens. -
Focus on Today.
Jesus reminds us, “Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Stay present. -
Shift Your Thoughts.
When worry creeps in, repeat Matthew 6:33 to yourself. -
Remember God’s Faithfulness.
Think about times when God has already provided for you. -
Take Action on What You Can Control.
Do what you can today, and leave the rest to God.
A Real-Life Example: From Worry to Worship
Meet Sara. She worried constantly about her job. Layoffs were happening, and she feared she’d be next.
One night, she opened her Bible and read Matthew 6 aloud. Slowly, her heart softened. She wrote this in her journal:
“God, You take care of the birds. I know You will take care of me too.”
The next morning, Sara wasn’t laid off. Instead, she was offered a new role with better pay!
She told me, “Even if I had been laid off, I know God would’ve provided. That’s the peace I found.”
