The Urgent Call: Answering Jesus’ Command to Share the Gospel

The Silent Struggle: Why We Hesitate to Share Our Faith

Have you ever had the perfect opportunity to share Jesus with someone but stayed silent? Maybe you feared rejection, didn’t know what to say, or worried about sounding too pushy. If so, you’re not alone.

Many Christians keep their faith private, believing that religion is a personal matter. But Jesus never intended for us to keep the gospel to ourselves. Instead, He told His disciples, “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few” (Matthew 9:37, KJV). He was not just speaking to them—He was speaking to us, too.

The Harvest Is Ready—But Where Are the Workers?

Imagine a farmer standing before a field of golden wheat, ready for harvest. But instead of workers gathering the crops, the field stands untouched. That’s the picture Jesus painted in Matthew 9:37-38. The world is full of people who are searching for hope, but there aren’t enough Christians sharing the good news.

Consider this: how often do we see hurting people in our daily lives? The coworker battling depression. The friend struggling with anxiety. The neighbor searching for purpose. Many are ready to hear about Jesus—they just need someone to tell them.

But here’s the challenge: too many believers think evangelism is only for pastors, missionaries, or church leaders. However, Jesus calls all of us to be His witnesses.

Overcoming the Fear of Evangelism

Sharing the gospel doesn’t have to be complicated. You don’t need a theology degree or a perfect script. Instead, think about these simple steps:

  1. Start with prayer – Ask God to give you opportunities and the right words.

  2. Build relationships – People are more open to hearing about Jesus from someone they trust.

  3. Share your story – Your personal testimony is one of the most powerful tools you have.

  4. Ask good questions – Instead of preaching, ask about their spiritual journey and listen.

  5. Invite, don’t impose – Share resources, invite them to church, or offer to pray for them.

Small Steps, Big Impact

Jesus isn’t asking you to save the world overnight. He’s asking you to take one step at a time. Maybe it’s inviting a friend to church, offering to pray for someone, or sharing a Bible verse that impacted you.

Remember, evangelism isn’t about forcing people to believe—it’s about planting seeds. Some will take root immediately. Others may take time. But every conversation, prayer, and act of love brings people closer to Jesus.

Lord Jesus our Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of salvation and the privilege of sharing the Gospel with others. You have called us to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth. We ask for Your wisdom, courage, and compassion as we witness to those who do not yet know You.

Fill our hearts with love for the lost, that we may see them as You see them—precious and in need of Your grace. Give us the right words at the right time, so that we may speak truth with gentleness and clarity. Help us to be patient, knowing that salvation is Your work, and we are merely sowing seeds.

Remove any fear or hesitation from our hearts. Let us not be ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe (Romans 1:16). Grant us boldness, like the early disciples, to proclaim Your name without fear, even in the face of opposition.

Holy Spirit, lead us to those whose hearts are ready to receive Your word. Open their eyes to the truth and soften their hearts to respond. Help us to be living examples of Your love, showing Christ through our actions as much as our words.

Lord, we surrender our efforts to You. Let every conversation, every testimony, and every act of kindness reflect Your glory. May Your kingdom grow, and may lives be transformed through Your saving grace.

Thank You Lord Jesus’. Amen.
