The Problem: A Divided World in Need of Truth
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the many different beliefs and doctrines around you? With so many denominations and conflicting messages, it’s easy to feel confused. But the Bible makes it clear—there is only one God. Ephesians 4 reminds us that unity in faith is not just important; it’s essential.
As a believer, you are called to walk in a way that reflects this truth. However, distractions, personal struggles, and division can make it difficult. So, how can we stay rooted in this one faith? Let’s explore how Ephesians 4 guides us toward unity, peace, and a stronger relationship with God.
Called to Walk in Unity
Paul, the author of Ephesians, starts by urging believers to “walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called” (Ephesians 4:1, KJV). This means living in a way that honors your calling as a follower of Christ. But how do we do this?
- Through humility and patience – We must approach others with love, even when disagreements arise.
- By striving for unity – Paul reminds us that there is “one Lord, one faith, one baptism” (Ephesians 4:5, KJV). Our focus should be on what unites us, not what divides us.
- With the bond of peace – Conflict is natural, but we must resolve differences in a way that reflects Christ.
Take a moment to reflect. Are you living in a way that promotes unity within the body of Christ?
The Power of One God
Ephesians 4:6 states, “One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” This verse is powerful. It reminds us that no matter our background, we serve the same God. He is above everything and works through each of us. He is in us all when we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. This tells us that the Holy Ghost is the Father. Since we all say that the Lord Jesus Christ is God, Ephesians 4: 6 just plainly states that there is only one God and Father of us all. then we can clearly say that Jesus Christ is the Father also.
Real-Life Example:
Imagine a family torn apart by disagreements. They have the same parents and the same upbringing, yet they allow minor differences to cause division. The body of Christ can sometimes look the same—brothers and sisters in Christ arguing over non-essential matters instead of focusing on the one true God who unites us.
The solution? Fix your eyes on the Lord Jesus Christ, not on personal preferences or traditions. When we recognize His authority, we shift our focus from division to devotion.
Growing in Faith Together
Paul continues by emphasizing that God gives different gifts to His people (Ephesians 4:11). Some are teachers, some are evangelists, and others serve in different capacities. These gifts are meant to strengthen the church and bring us closer to Christ.
But there’s a challenge: Many Christians today feel spiritually stagnant. They go to church, but they don’t grow. Why?
- They are not using their gifts.
- They are disconnected from the body of Christ.
- They are being misled by false teachings.
The solution is found in Ephesians 4:15: “Speaking the truth in love may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.” Growth happens when we encourage one another, stay rooted in truth, and remain connected to Christ.
Living Out the Truth
Paul doesn’t stop at theology—he gives practical steps.
- Put away falsehood (Ephesians 4:25). Speak truthfully and avoid deceit.
- Control anger (Ephesians 4:26). Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath.
- Use words to build up, not tear down (Ephesians 4:29). Speak life into others.
- Forgive as Christ forgave you (Ephesians 4:32). Let go of bitterness and embrace grace.
Living for Christ means daily choosing to reflect His love and truth.
