Our True Hope
When Hope Runs Dry
Life can be hard. Bills pile up. People disappoint us. Our bodies grow tired, and our hearts often feel heavy. And even when we try our best, discouragement still finds its way into our lives.
Have you ever felt like you were doing everything right, yet nothing seemed to change? That’s a common pain point for many believers. We try to stay faithful, serve others, and remain joyful, but at some point, weariness sets in.
I’ve been there too. As someone who teaches and writes about Christian faith, I know firsthand how exhausting life can feel when we lean on our own strength. That’s why I want to walk with you through what God says about hope. Today, we’ll discover together that our true hope is not in our circumstances but in God Himself.
What Isaiah Teaches About Strength
Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
This verse isn’t just poetry. It’s a promise. God reminds us that real endurance doesn’t come from trying harder, it comes from trusting Him. When we place our hope in God, He gives us fresh strength to keep moving forward.
think of it this way: eagles soar high because they ride the wind, not because they flap harder. In the same way, when we hope in God, we rise above challenges on His strength, not ours.
The Problem: Hoping in the Wrong Things
Here’s the problem. We often place our hope in things that can’t hold us up. We hope a new job will fix our stress. We hope a relationship will heal our loneliness. We hope money will bring us peace.
But temporary solutions always run out. That’s why so many of us feel restless and exhausted. We’ve leaned on things that were never meant to carry the weight of our souls.
The Solution: Placing Hope in God Alone
God invites us to shift our focus. Instead of forcing our way forward, we can surrender control and let Him guide us. Hope in God isn’t blind optimism. It’s grounded trust in the One who has power over every circumstance.
When we place our hope in God, three things happen:
-
We gain perspective. We see that God’s plan is bigger than our present struggles.
-
We find strength. Our weakness becomes a place where God’s power shows up.
-
We experience peace. Instead of anxiety, we learn to rest in His promises.
A Story of Renewed Hope
I once spoke with a woman who was overwhelmed by grief after losing her job. She felt like she had nothing left. But instead of giving up, she started praying Isaiah 40:31 daily. She reminded herself that God was her true provider.
Months later, not only did she find a new job, but she also said she had more peace during unemployment than she ever had while working. Why? Because her hope was no longer tied to her circumstances, it was anchored in God.
How You Can Renew Your Hope Today
You don’t have to keep pushing through on empty. Here are three simple steps you can take today to renew your hope in God:
-
Pause and pray. Ask God to search your heart and reveal where you’ve placed false hope.
-
Read Isaiah 40:31 slowly. Let the words sink in. Picture yourself soaring like an eagle on God’s strength.
-
Release control. Write down one burden you’re carrying and give it to God in prayer.
