Where God Breathes, Life Follows: Breathe on us Lord Jesus

A Valley of Dry Bones

Have you ever felt like your faith was dry and lifeless? Maybe prayer feels empty. Maybe worship feels forced. Or maybe you wonder if God has stepped back and left you standing in a desert of silence.

That’s exactly how Israel felt when God gave Ezekiel a vision of a valley full of bones. Dry. Scattered. Forgotten. It was a picture of their hopelessness. Yet God didn’t stop there. He spoke a powerful promise: “I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life” (Ezekiel 37:5 NIV).

Where God Breathes, Life Returns

The Hebrew word for “breath” is ruach—a word that also means spirit or wind. God was saying, “I will fill what is dead with My Spirit and bring it back to life.”

That vision wasn’t just for Israel. It’s also for anyone who feels discouraged, weary, or spiritually empty. God’s Spirit still moves in places that look lifeless. His breath revives what seems too far gone.

Think about Jesus. The cross looked final. The tomb looked permanent. Yet God’s breath of life raised Him up. That same Spirit is at work today, restoring, reviving, and renewing hearts that have grown cold.

A Story We Can Relate To

I once spoke with a friend who told me she felt like her prayers “just hit the ceiling.” She felt numb, as though her faith was nothing but bones. Yet when she began to open her Bible again and pray, even with weak words, she noticed something. God met her there. Slowly, she felt His Spirit breathe new strength into her.

Her story reminds us that revival often begins in small ways. It starts when we invite God to breathe on us again.

How You Can Experience God’s Breath

If your soul feels dry today, here are three simple ways to welcome God’s life-giving Spirit:

  1. Pray honestly. Tell God exactly how you feel. He isn’t afraid of your honesty.

  2. Read Scripture slowly. Don’t rush. Let His words soak into your spirit.

  3. Stay connected. Surround yourself with people who speak life and encouragement into your walk with God.

Where God breathes, life follows. And He’s still breathing today.
