The Question We All Ask
Have you ever wondered why God didn’t just destroy Satan right away?
You’re not alone. Many Christians ask, “If God is all-knowing and all-powerful, why let Satan tempt us at all?” It seems unfair. We love God, we want to obey, but why let the enemy loose where we live, work, and worship? I have spent years studying Scripture and wrestling with these questions, I want to share an answer you may not have considered, one that will transform how you see your trials, temptations, and purpose.
So let’s dive in.
A Battle That Begins in Heaven
First, we know this from Revelation 20:10:
“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone… and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” —Revelation 20:10 (KJV)
That’s Satan’s end. But what about the beginning?
The Bible gives us insight into Satan’s fall. He wasn’t always the adversary. Once, he was an angel of light.
Here’s what the Scriptures say:
“Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.”
—Ezekiel 28:15
“Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground…”
—Ezekiel 28:17
“For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God… I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.”
—Isaiah 14:13–15
These verses show it clearly: Satan fell because of pride. He wanted to be like God. He wanted glory for himself.
But God judged him and cast him out of heaven.
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon… and the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan… he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
—Revelation 12:7–9
That’s how Satan ended up here on earth. Not by chance but as part of God’s divine plan.
When Satan rebelled, God didn’t throw him straight into the lake of fire. Instead, He cast him down to earth right where Adam and Eve were.
That wasn’t an accident. It was a deliberate move.
But why?
God Knows All, So What’s the Purpose?
God is omniscient (Isaiah 46:10), omnipresent (Psalm 139:7–10), and all-powerful (Revelation 19:6). He knew Satan would become a deceiver. He knew Adam and Eve would fall. Still, He allowed it.
Why?
Because God is not just saving people. He’s shaping sons and daughters.
He’s preparing a bride, a chosen people who will reign and rule with Him forever (Revelation 19:7–9).
That doesn’t happen through comfort. It happens through choice.
Training Ground: Earth Isn’t Just a Battlezone, It’s a Classroom
Let’s look at this verse:
“I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.” —Isaiah 45:7
That’s tough to digest. But it points to something powerful: God uses contrast to teach truth.
How do we understand light without darkness? Good without evil? Obedience without the temptation to disobey?
Just like muscles need resistance to grow, our character needs testing to be strengthened.
What the Apostle Paul Saw
Paul, who faced prison, beatings, and betrayal, wrote this:
“Now are we the sons of God… but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him.” —1 John 3:2
And in Romans 8:17:
“If children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ…”
Did you catch that?
We’re not just saved from hell. We’re destined to rule with Christ. That’s not small. That’s royalty-level calling.
And like any royal family, we’re trained for the throne.
So… Why Didn’t God Just Destroy Satan?
Because Satan isn’t just our enemy, he’s also part of our training.
God doesn’t tempt anyone (James 1:13). But He allows trials, testing, and yes, even Satan, to serve His greater purpose.
That purpose?
To make us like Him.
To prepare us to reign with Him.
To shape us into His bride.
Relatable Example: From Struggle to Strength
Think of Joseph. He was betrayed, sold, falsely accused, imprisoned, and yet later said:
“You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.” —Genesis 50:20
That’s the story of every believer.
Satan may mean to harm you, but God uses it to form you.
Your Struggle Has a Purpose
Are you facing temptation, trials, or deep pain right now?
You’re not alone. And you’re not being punished.
You’re being prepared.
Each test is a training session. Each hardship is a chisel shaping your eternity. The devil doesn’t win. He’s a pawn in the hands of a sovereign God.
You are becoming more like Christ.
You are being shaped into His image, and God is love.
“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
—1 John 4:
This is the ultimate goal: to become like Jeshua, who is perfect love.
Becoming Love, The Bride He’s Forming
God isn’t just saving people. He’s choosing a bride, a people conformed to His character.
“Let us be glad and rejoice… for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.”
—Revelation 19:7
The church isn’t just forgiven, it’s fashioned into the likeness of Christ.
But how do we get there?
How Saints Grow in Love and Maturity
Peter lays it out beautifully. This is the path of spiritual growth:
“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.”
—2 Peter 1:5–7
And then comes the promise:
“For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful… for so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
—2 Peter 1:8,11
That’s powerful. If these qualities are in us, we will not fall.
They’re not optional. They’re essential.
They are how the bride prepares herself. They are how the saints become like God, become love.
Love: The Bond of Perfection
Paul also emphasizes this when he writes:
“And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.”
—Colossians 3:14
Charity, agapē love, is the highest form of love. It’s not just emotion. It’s sacrifice. It’s action. It’s who God is, and who He calls His bride to become.
Final Thought: The Bride Reflects the Groom
Satan’s pride led to his fall.
Christ’s love led to our redemption.
Our transformation leads to our coronation.
You are not just surviving life’s battles.
You are being prepared to reign, with Jeshua.
“Beloved, now are we the sons of God… when he shall appear, we shall be like him.”
—1 John 3:2
“If we suffer, we shall also reign with him…”
—2 Timothy 2:12
“He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”
—Revelation 21:7
Final Thought: You Were Made for More
Satan’s time is short. God’s plan is eternal. You were created to reign—not just survive. The battles you face today are training you for a crown tomorrow.
“He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” —Revelation 21:7
So next time you’re under pressure, remember this:
God didn’t forget you. He’s forming you.
