Wealth, Health, and Wisdom: What Truly Matters in Life
First of all, people everywhere search for three main things: wealth, health, and wisdom. These desires shape many decisions in life. However, many people misunderstand where these blessings truly come from. As a result, they spend their lives chasing temporary things while overlooking what is eternal.
Meanwhile, the world often defines wealth as money, possessions, houses, land, power, and recognition. People believe that success is measured by what they own. Yet, this view misses a deeper truth. True fulfillment does not come from material gain alone.
Therefore, the real question becomes clear. What truly matters when this life ends?
The World’s View of Wealth
To begin with, many people seek wealth through material success. They work tirelessly to gain more money, larger homes, greater influence, and public recognition. At first glance, this pursuit seems logical. After all, society often praises financial achievement.
However, this perspective often treats faith as mere religion rather than divine revelation. People focus on earthly matters rather than heavenly ones. Consequently, they mistake temporary success for lasting purpose.
Sadly, many develop what Scripture describes as a form of godliness while denying its true power. They may speak about faith, yet their hearts remain focused on worldly gain.
Furthermore, the constant desire for more, more, and more leaves little room to consider eternity. Many rarely pause to think about the end of life or what lies beyond it.
The Question the Lord Jesus Asked
Because of this misplaced focus, the Lord Jesus asked a powerful question that still speaks today:
“What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul? And what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
This question reveals a profound truth. A person may gain wealth, influence, and recognition, yet still lose what matters most.
Therefore, the value of the human soul surpasses every earthly possession.
The Importance of Health: Body and Mind
In addition to wealth, people also pursue health. Many spend great effort maintaining physical strength and avoiding sickness. While caring for the body is important, the health of the mind and spirit is equally vital.
Unfortunately, modern society often neglects mental and spiritual well-being. Many individuals feel overwhelmed, anxious, or empty despite having material success.
Consequently, one major weakness seen in humanity today is mental and spiritual instability.
This is why balance is essential. A healthy body must be joined with the mind of Christ. When a person begins to think according to the teachings of the Lord Jesus, life gains clarity and direction.
The mind of Christ focuses not only on the present life but also on eternal life.
The Wisdom From Above
Next comes the third pursuit: wisdom. Yet not all wisdom is the same.
Many people chase worldly wisdom. This wisdom seeks quick success, short-term advantage, and personal gain. While it may bring temporary benefits, it rarely produces lasting peace.
In contrast, there is wisdom from above. This heavenly wisdom comes from the Creator and leads people toward truth.
According to Scripture, the wisdom from above is:
-
First pure
-
Then peaceable
-
Gentle
-
Full of mercy
-
Rich in goodness
Because of this, heavenly wisdom produces peace, joy, and understanding. It opens the heart to recognize the greatness of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Those who receive this wisdom begin to see clearly that Jesus Christ is not merely a teacher or prophet. Rather, He is the Creator who came into the world He made.
As Scripture says, He was in the world, and the world was made by Him.
Wisdom That Gives Eternal Vision
Furthermore, the wisdom from above gives believers vision for the future. It lifts the mind beyond temporary goals and directs the heart toward eternal blessings.
When people embrace this wisdom, they begin to live differently. They understand that life is not just about success today but about eternal life tomorrow.
This wisdom also reveals an important truth: sin brings reproach to any people. The consequences of sin lead to separation from the Lord Jesus, because the wages of sin is death.
Yet the message of hope remains clear.
The Apostles’ Path to Salvation
When we read the Acts of the Apostles, we see the path laid out by the apostles whom the Lord Jesus chose, taught, and sent into the world.
They followed His command:
“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Through their teaching, the early believers understood the steps toward spiritual renewal. In Acts 2:38, people were instructed to:
-
Repent
-
Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins
-
Receive the gift of the Holy Ghost
This message brought transformation and hope to countless lives.
Seek First the Kingdom
Finally, the most important priority in life becomes clear.
Instead of chasing temporary success, the Lord Jesus taught:
“Seek first the kingdom and His righteousness.”
When people place the kingdom first, everything else falls into its proper place. The Lord Jesus provides what is needed through His grace, mercy, and kindness.
Wealth, health, and wisdom all find their true meaning when they are guided by eternal purpose.
