Introduction: The Power Behind a Name

Have you ever noticed how some names carry weight? Maybe it’s the name of a loved one that brings peace or a person whose name commands respect. Now, imagine a name that carries divine authority, healing, and eternal life.

That name is Jesus Christ, the name of the Lord.

I’ve studied Scripture and seen firsthand that the power in the name of the Lord is revealed through Jesus. The Bible tells us that from Heaven to earth, everything finds its meaning and identity in Him. In this article, we’ll explore what makes the name of Jesus unique, how it embodies God’s identity and character, and why calling on His name transforms lives.

The Meaning of a Name (And Why God’s Name Is Different)

In every culture, names carry meaning. They may tell a story, reveal a family’s hope, or describe a person’s traits. In the Bible, names often mark identity and destiny.

For example, Abram became Abraham—“father of many nations.” Jacob became Israel—“one who wrestles with God.” Each name revealed purpose.

But there is one name that stands above all, the name of Jesus Christ.

Isaiah prophesied this long before His birth:

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder.
And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
(Isaiah 9:6, KJV)

This verse shows us that the name of Jesus carries divine titles, He is not just a man, but the Prince of PeaceThe Mighty God and Everlasting Father  revealed in the flesh.

The Name Above Every Name

Centuries later, the Apostle Paul confirmed what Isaiah had foretold:

“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
(Philippians 2:10–11, KJV)

This means Jesus is not only the name of the Lord, He is the Lord.

When you call on the name of Jesus, you’re not using a title or religious phrase. You’re invoking the authority of Heaven, the identity of the Creator, and the power of the Redeemer. His name carries all the fullness of God’s presence.

That’s why demons tremble at His name. That’s why miracles happen in His name. That’s why salvation comes through His name.

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
(Acts 4:12, KJV)

We Are Named After Him

Paul also wrote something powerful in Ephesians 3:14–16:

“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
From whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man.”

Here we learn something deeply personal, God’s family is named after Jesus Christ.

If you are a believer, you carry His name. You are identified with Him. That’s why when you pray “in Jesus’ name,” it’s not just a phrase, it’s your position and your power.

His name gives you spiritual authority and connects you directly to the Father. You’re part of the household of faith that bears the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Why This Matters Today

In daily life, it’s easy to forget the power of the name of Jesus. We might pray out of habit, or call on God without realizing the depth behind His name. But understanding that Jesus is the revealed name of the Lord changes everything.

When you speak His name:

  • Chains break.

  • Peace returns.

  • Fear leaves.

  • Hearts are strengthened.

Even in moments of weakness, His name carries you. That is why:

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Story: Maria’s Turning Point

Maria was overwhelmed with anxiety. She couldn’t sleep, couldn’t focus, and felt abandoned by God. One night, she read Philippians 2:10–11 and began whispering the name of Jesus.

She said it over and over: “Jesus… You are Lord.”

As tears fell, peace filled her room. It wasn’t magic, it was power in the name of the Lord. From that moment, her fear began to fade. The name of Jesus became her refuge and strength.

He is the strong tower.
He is the Mighty God.
He is the Everlasting Father.
He is the Prince of Peace.
