The Lord Jesus Christ Is Faithful: Trusting Him Through Every Trial
Perhaps you’re facing financial pressure. Maybe you’re dealing with sickness, family struggles, loneliness, or uncertainty about the future. No matter what your challenge may be, there is one truth that can anchor your soul: the Lord Jesus Christ is faithful.
As a Christian writer, Bible teacher, and student of Scripture, I have discovered something that has remained true throughout every season of life. Circumstances change. People change. Economies change. Yet the Lord Jesus Christ never changes. His faithfulness remains constant.
Today, we will explore Isaiah 43:2 and discover how the faithfulness of the Lord Jesus Christ carried His people through impossible situations. More importantly, we will learn how remembering His faithfulness in the past can strengthen our trust in Him for the future.
The Promise That Changes Everything
First, consider the powerful words found in the book of Isaiah:
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” (Isaiah 43:2)
Notice something important. The Lord Jesus Christ did not say “if” you pass through the waters. Instead, He said “when.”
Therefore, trials are not optional. Every believer will face difficulties. However, the promise is not that we will avoid trouble. Rather, the promise is that the Lord Jesus Christ will be with us through every challenge.
Consequently, this truth gives us confidence when life becomes difficult.
When You Pass Through the Waters
To begin with, Isaiah’s audience would have immediately remembered one of the greatest miracles in Scripture.
After more than 400 years of slavery in Egypt, the Israelites finally escaped. However, their freedom seemed short-lived. Soon, Pharaoh’s army pursued them. Meanwhile, the Red Sea blocked their path.
As a result, fear filled the hearts of the people.
Imagine standing there. The sea is in front of you. The enemy is behind you. Escape seems impossible.
Yet the Lord Jesus Christ had a different plan.
Through Moses, He parted the Red Sea and created a path where no path existed. Suddenly, what seemed impossible became possible.
Therefore, the lesson is clear. When you reach a dead end in life, the Lord Jesus Christ can create a way forward.
For example, perhaps you have lost a job and cannot see how your bills will be paid. Maybe a relationship has broken down beyond repair. Yet the same Lord Jesus Christ who opened the Red Sea still opens doors today.
Consequently, His faithfulness remains unchanged.
When You Pass Through the Rivers
Next, Isaiah’s readers would have remembered another remarkable event.
Years after leaving Egypt, the Israelites faced the Jordan River. Once again, an obstacle stood between them and their promised future.
Nevertheless, the Lord Jesus Christ instructed the priests to carry the Ark of the Covenant into the water.
As soon as their feet touched the river, the waters stopped flowing.
As a result, the entire nation crossed safely on dry ground.
Afterward, they built a memorial of twelve stones. Why? Because future generations needed to remember what the Lord Jesus Christ had done.
Likewise, we need memorials in our own lives.
Perhaps your memorial is a journal entry. Maybe it is a testimony you shared at church. It could even be a difficult season that ended with an unexpected blessing.
Whatever form it takes, remembering past victories strengthens future faith.
Therefore, when new challenges arise, you can look back and say, “The Lord Jesus Christ helped me then, and He will help me now.”
When You Walk Through the Fire
Finally, Isaiah speaks about walking through fire.
Although this event occurred years after Isaiah wrote these words, the story perfectly demonstrates the faithfulness of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow before an idol. Consequently, King Nebuchadnezzar ordered them thrown into a fiery furnace.
Humanly speaking, their situation was hopeless.
However, something extraordinary happened.
Instead of seeing three men in the fire, the king saw four.
The Lord Jesus Christ was with them in the flames.
Furthermore, when they emerged, they were unharmed. Their clothes were untouched. They did not even smell like smoke.
What an incredible picture of divine protection.
Similarly, many believers today walk through fires of grief, illness, disappointment, and hardship. Yet the Lord Jesus Christ remains present in every flame.
Although the fire may be real, His presence is even more real.
Therefore, we can trust Him completely.
Why We Forget the Faithfulness of the Lord Jesus Christ
Unfortunately, many believers struggle with fear because they focus on present problems instead of past victories.
As a result, anxiety grows.
Yet Scripture repeatedly encourages us to remember.
Remember the Red Sea.
Remember the Jordan River.
Remember the fiery furnace.
Most importantly, remember what the Lord Jesus Christ has done in your own life.
When we recall His faithfulness, our fears begin to shrink.
Consequently, our confidence grows.
A Personal Story About Faithfulness
Several years ago, a man lost his job unexpectedly. He had a family to support and very little savings.
At first, panic overwhelmed him.
Nevertheless, he remembered previous times when the Lord Jesus Christ had provided. He remembered unexpected opportunities. He remembered prayers that had been answered.
Therefore, instead of surrendering to fear, he chose faith.
Within weeks, a new opportunity appeared. Not only did he find employment, but his new position provided greater stability than before.
Looking back, he realized something important.
The Lord Jesus Christ had already gone ahead of him.
Likewise, whatever challenge you face today, the Lord Jesus Christ is already there.
How to Build Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ
1. Remember Past Victories
First, make a list of times when the Lord Jesus Christ answered prayer.
Then review that list regularly.
As a result, your faith will grow stronger.
2. Read His Promises Daily
Next, spend time reading Scripture every day.
The promises of the Lord Jesus Christ provide strength during difficult seasons.
Therefore, fill your mind with His Word.
3. Share Your Testimony
Additionally, tell others what the Lord Jesus Christ has done for you.
When you share your testimony, you encourage others and remind yourself of His faithfulness.
4. Trust Before You See Results
Finally, choose faith before circumstances improve.
Faith does not wait for evidence. Instead, faith trusts the Lord Jesus Christ even when answers seem delayed.
Consequently, peace replaces worry.
The Faithfulness of the Lord Jesus Christ Never Ends
Today, you may be facing deep waters. You may be crossing a raging river. Perhaps you are walking through a fiery trial.
Yet remember this truth.
The Lord Jesus Christ who parted the Red Sea is still faithful.
The Lord Jesus Christ who stopped the Jordan River is still faithful.
The Lord Jesus Christ who walked with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the furnace is still faithful.
Furthermore, He has not forgotten you.
No challenge is too great. No problem is too complex. No situation is beyond His power.
Therefore, look back at His faithfulness. Then look ahead with confidence.
The same Lord Jesus Christ who carried you yesterday will carry you tomorrow.
His faithfulness has no expiration date.
And because He is faithful, you can trust Him with your future.
