I Will Walk in the Spirit, Serve Others, and Do Good: Galatians 6

I Will Walk in the Spirit and Do Good

Galatians 6 challenges me to stop being a spectator of my faith. Instead, I must become a person who lives what I believe. The Lord Jesus has called me to love others, carry burdens, examine my own life, sow good seeds, and never give up.

Therefore, this chapter is not simply about what someone else should do. It is about what I will do.

I will restore others with meekness. I will carry burdens. I will examine my own work. I will sow to the Spirit. I will continue doing good. Most importantly, I will allow the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ to change me from the inside out.

I Will Restore Others With Meekness

Galatians 6:1 says:

“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”

When someone falls, I will not immediately condemn that person. Instead, I will remember that I also need mercy and correction.

I will approach people with humility. I will speak the truth, but I will speak it with love. I will seek restoration rather than embarrassment.

I will remember that anyone can stumble. Therefore, when I help someone get back on the right path, I will do it gently.

My commitment: I will restore others with meekness and examine my own heart at the same time.

I Will Carry Someone Else’s Burden

Paul continues:

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”

I will not live as though everyone else’s problems are someone else’s responsibility.

Sometimes a person does not need a lecture. They need someone to listen. Sometimes they need prayer. Sometimes they need encouragement. Sometimes they simply need someone to stand beside them.

Therefore, I will look for opportunities to help.

I will ask, “How can I help carry this burden?”

I will not wait until someone begs for assistance. When I see a genuine need, I will respond with compassion.

I Will Refuse to Think Too Highly of Myself

Galatians 6:3 gives me an important warning:

“For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.”

I will not allow pride to control my life.

Whatever abilities I possess, they are not reasons to look down on others. Instead, they give me opportunities to serve.

I will remain teachable. I will accept correction. I will admit when I am wrong. I will celebrate the accomplishments of others without feeling threatened.

True spiritual strength does not require me to prove that I am better than everyone else.

I will choose humility because pride can deceive me.

I Will Examine My Own Work

Paul says:

“But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”

I will stop measuring my spiritual life by comparing myself with other people.

Instead, I will examine myself.

Am I becoming more patient? Am I showing more love? Am I forgiving people? Am I praying consistently? Am I obeying the Word? Am I treating people the way the Lord Jesus wants me to treat them?

These are the questions that matter.

I will examine my own work instead of constantly examining someone else’s.

I Will Remember That I Reap What I Sow

Galatians 6:7 says:

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

I will take this principle seriously.

If I sow bitterness, I should not expect peace. If I sow dishonesty, I should not expect trust. If I sow kindness, encouragement, forgiveness, prayer, and faith, I can expect those seeds to produce good fruit in their proper season.

Therefore, I will become careful about what I plant every day.

My words are seeds. My actions are seeds. My attitudes are seeds. My choices are seeds.

I will sow to the Spirit because I want to reap life everlasting.

I Will Not Give Up Doing Good

One of the most encouraging promises in this chapter is:

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Sometimes doing good becomes exhausting.

I may help people and receive no appreciation. I may pray and not immediately see an answer. I may encourage someone who never says thank you.

Still, I will not quit.

The Lord Jesus sees what other people do not see.

Therefore, when I feel tired, I will remember that my obedience is not wasted.

I will keep doing good even when I cannot yet see the harvest.

I Will Do Good Whenever I Have the Opportunity

Paul says:

“As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”

I will look for opportunities to do good.

I will encourage someone who feels discouraged. I will help someone who is struggling. I will pray for someone who is hurting. I will forgive when forgiveness is needed. I will speak words that build people up rather than tear them down.

I will not wait for the perfect opportunity.

If I have an opportunity to do good today, I will take it.

I Will Glory in the Cross

Galatians 6:14 declares:

“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.”

My greatest achievement will not be my possessions, position, education, popularity, or accomplishments.

My confidence will be in the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The cross reminds me that I belong to Him. It reminds me that my old way of living must die. It calls me to surrender my pride, selfishness, anger, and worldly desires.

Therefore, I will not allow the world to define who I am.

I will glory in the cross and live as a new creature in Christ Jesus.

I Will Become a New Creature

Galatians 6:15 says:

“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.”

My Christian life is not about making myself look religious.

It is about becoming new.

I will allow the Lord Jesus to change my thoughts, my words, my attitudes, my relationships, and my actions.

I will not settle for simply appearing changed on the outside.

I will pursue genuine transformation on the inside.

I Will Bear the Marks of the Lord Jesus

Paul concludes:

“From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.”

Paul’s life demonstrated his commitment. His faith was not merely something he talked about. He lived it.

Likewise, I want my life to show that I belong to the Lord Jesus.

My patience should show it. My forgiveness should show it. My love should show it. My generosity should show it. My willingness to serve should show it.

When people encounter me, I want them to see evidence that the Lord Jesus is working in my life.

My Personal Commitment

Today, I make this commitment:

I will restore others with meekness.

I will carry the burdens of others.

I will remain humble.

I will examine my own life.

I will sow good seeds.

I will sow to the Spirit.

I will not become weary in doing good.

I will help others whenever I have the opportunity.

I will glory in the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I will walk as a new creature in Christ Jesus.

And when life becomes difficult, I will not quit.

I will remember Galatians 6:9:

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

I will keep going. I will keep believing. I will keep serving. I will keep doing good. I will keep walking with the Lord Jesus.

Amen.
