From Death to Life: The Resurrection That Changes Everything
Have you ever wished you could have just one more conversation with someone you love? Have you ever felt that something in your own life was so broken that it could never live again? If so, you are not alone. I’m Paul Edwards, a Christian writer and Oneness believer, and in this article, we will explore one of the greatest truths in Scripture: the lord Jesus Christ can bring us from death to life. We will look at Lazarus, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and what His victory means for you today.
The Pain of Losing Someone We Love
First, many of us know the pain of losing someone we love. Death can leave an empty chair at the table, a quiet room, and memories that bring both smiles and tears.
Sometimes, we wish we could have just a few more hours. We may wish we could hear their voice again. We may even replay our last conversation and wonder what we could have said differently.
However, the Bible gives us a message that reaches beyond our grief. It tells us that death does not have the final word.
In John 11, we read about Lazarus. He had died, and his sisters, Martha and Mary, were grieving. Lazarus had been in the grave for four days.
Yet, Jesus arrived.
Then, something happened that no human power could accomplish. The lord Jesus Christ called Lazarus out of the grave, and Lazarus came back to life.
What was dead became alive again.
That miracle gives us hope. Nevertheless, Lazarus eventually had to face physical death again. His resurrection was temporary.
Jesus Christ offers something far greater.
A Resurrection That Is Different
The resurrection of Lazarus points us toward an even greater truth.
Paul explains this truth in Romans 6. He teaches us that when we are united with Jesus Christ through faith, we can walk in newness of life.
That is the heart of the message from death to life.
Jesus Christ did not simply come to make our present life more comfortable. He came to give us new life and the hope of eternal life.
Moreover, His resurrection was not temporary. Jesus Christ conquered death permanently.
Therefore, the resurrection of Jesus Christ changes everything.
Jesus Christ Faced Death for Us
Before the resurrection came the cross.
Jesus Christ willingly faced suffering, rejection, humiliation, and death. He knew what awaited Him, yet He continued toward the cross.
He did not run away.
Instead, He gave Himself willingly.
The cross reminds us that sin has consequences. However, it also reveals the depth of the love and grace of the lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ bore our sins and suffered in our place so that we could receive forgiveness and new life.
Therefore, the cross was not the end of the story.
It was the beginning of the greatest victory.
When Death Looks Like the End
Imagine standing near the cross on the day Jesus died.
His followers did not have the complete picture.
They saw their Master beaten and crucified. They watched Him die. They experienced fear, confusion, and grief.
For them, it must have felt final.
However, they did not yet know what was coming.
The grave could not hold Jesus Christ.
That truth matters because we often experience our own “Friday moments.”
Perhaps you are grieving someone you love.
Perhaps you are facing a broken relationship.
Perhaps you have made choices that you regret.
Perhaps you feel spiritually empty.
Perhaps you are praying for someone who seems far away from the lord Jesus Christ.
At those moments, your situation may look final.
Nevertheless, Friday was not the end for Jesus.
And your difficult season does not have to be the end of your story either.
From Death to Life Means Newness of Life
Romans 6 gives us a powerful picture of what happens when we identify with Jesus Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection.
Paul writes:
“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
— Romans 6:4, KJV
Notice those words: “walk in newness of life.”
This means Christianity is not simply about knowing facts about Jesus.
It is about allowing His truth to transform how we live.
When Jesus Christ changes your life, your past no longer has to control your future.
Your mistakes do not have to define you.
Your failures do not have to become your identity.
Your darkest chapter does not have to become your final chapter.
Instead, Jesus Christ gives you a new beginning.
What Does New Life Look Like?
So, what does it mean to live from death to life?
First, it means leaving the old life behind.
If anger once controlled you, you can learn to walk in forgiveness.
If fear once controlled you, you can learn to trust the lord Jesus Christ.
If guilt once controlled you, you can receive His grace and move forward.
If sin once controlled you, you can turn away from it and pursue righteousness.
Furthermore, new life changes how we treat other people.
We become more willing to forgive.
We become more willing to serve.
We become more willing to encourage.
We become more willing to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
In other words, new life should produce a new way of living.
Your Story May Not Be Finished
Perhaps you are reading this today and thinking, “I have gone too far.”
Maybe you believe your past disqualifies you.
Maybe you have carried shame for years.
However, remember the message of the resurrection.
Jesus Christ specializes in bringing life where people see only death.
The stone in front of the tomb did not stop Him.
The grave did not stop Him.
Death did not stop Him.
Therefore, your past does not have to stop you from turning toward Him.
The answer is not to pretend your mistakes never happened. Instead, bring them honestly before the lord Jesus Christ.
Repent.
Believe His Word.
Follow Him.
Walk in newness of life.
What About Someone You Love?
Perhaps you have a family member or friend who is far from the lord Jesus Christ.
Maybe you have prayed for that person for years.
Maybe you have watched them make painful choices.
In those moments, keep praying.
Keep loving.
Keep showing the character of Jesus Christ.
Most importantly, keep sharing the truth with humility and patience.
You cannot force someone to believe. However, you can let your own life become a testimony.
When people see forgiveness instead of bitterness, hope instead of despair, and love instead of hatred, they may become curious about the source of that change.
Therefore, live the message you want others to hear.
The Best Kind of Resurrection
Lazarus came out of a physical grave.
That miracle was extraordinary.
However, Jesus Christ offers something greater.
He offers spiritual life.
He offers forgiveness.
He offers reconciliation.
He offers hope.
He offers the promise of eternal life to those who belong to Him.
That is why the message of resurrection and eternal life remains so powerful.
The resurrection tells us that death is not stronger than Jesus Christ.
The grave is not stronger than Jesus Christ.
Sin is not stronger than Jesus Christ.
Therefore, we can face tomorrow with hope.
When You Are Living in a Season of Grief
Grief takes time.
So, do not be ashamed to grieve.
Jesus Himself wept at Lazarus’ tomb. John 11:35 gives us the simple but powerful statement:
“Jesus wept.”
That verse reminds us that tears do not mean we have lost our faith.
You can believe in the resurrection and still cry.
You can trust Jesus Christ and still miss someone.
You can have hope and still experience sorrow.
Therefore, give yourself permission to grieve while holding onto hope.
Your tears do not cancel your faith.
Instead, bring your tears to the lord Jesus Christ.
The Resurrection Gives Us Hope
The resurrection of Jesus Christ changes how we view death.
It also changes how we view life.
Because Jesus Christ rose again, we have hope beyond the grave.
Because Jesus Christ conquered death, we can trust His promises.
Because Jesus Christ lives, we can live with purpose today.
Therefore, do not waste the life you have been given.
Love people.
Forgive quickly.
Serve faithfully.
Share the gospel.
Encourage someone who is hurting.
And most importantly, keep your eyes on Jesus Christ.
From Death to Life Today
Maybe your “death” is not physical.
Maybe something inside you has become cold.
Maybe your joy has disappeared.
Maybe your prayer life has become weak.
Maybe your hope has faded.
If that describes you, do not give up.
The same Jesus Christ who called Lazarus from the grave can bring renewal into your life.
Start today.
Pray.
Open your Bible.
Repent where repentance is needed.
Forgive where forgiveness is needed.
Obey the Word.
And trust the lord Jesus Christ one day at a time.

Final Encouragement
From death to life.
Those four words capture the hope of the gospel.
Lazarus came out of the grave, but Jesus Christ conquered death forever.
Jesus Christ went to the cross for us. He carried our sins. He died. He was buried. Then He rose again.
Therefore, His resurrection gives us hope.
If you feel like your life is finished, remember that Jesus Christ is still Lord.
If you are grieving, remember that death does not have the final word.
If you have failed, remember that you can turn back to Him.
If you feel spiritually dead, seek Him.
If you have received new life through Jesus Christ, share that hope with someone else.
The story does not end at the grave.
Because Jesus Christ lives, there is hope.
And that is the good news of going from death to life.
