Have You Been So Busy That You’ve Forgotten What Really Matters?
Life moves fast.
Every day brings another meeting, another bill, another appointment, another notification, and another responsibility. Before long, weeks become months, and the people who once mattered most slowly move to the edge of our lives.
Perhaps you’ve been there.
You meant to call your parents. You planned to visit a friend. You wanted to spend more time with your children. Yet somehow, life always seemed to get in the way.
Meanwhile, loneliness continues to grow across the world. Anxiety rises. Depression increases. Families drift apart. Friendships quietly fade.
As someone committed to helping people apply biblical truth to everyday life, I want to show you what the Word of the Lord Jesus Christ says about rebuilding meaningful relationships. Together, we’ll discover why reprioritizing your life may be one of the most important decisions you make this year, how Christian community strengthens your faith, and what practical steps you can take today.
Thankfully, it’s not too late.
The Lord Jesus Christ Created Us for Community
The world constantly teaches self-reliance.
People proudly say:
- “I don’t need anyone.”
- “I can handle it myself.”
- “I’ll figure it out.”
However, the Lord Jesus Christ designed people differently.
From the beginning, He created us to live in relationship—with Him and with one another. Therefore, Christian community is not optional. It is part of His perfect design.
Consider what Proverbs says:
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”
Proverbs 17:17 (NIV)
Notice that adversity is expected.
Hard times are not unusual. They are part of life.
Fortunately, the Lord Jesus Christ also provides people who can walk beside us when those difficult moments arrive.
A Story That Could Be Any One of Us
Imagine a man named David.
He worked long hours.
He promised his family that next month things would slow down. Unfortunately, next month became next year.
Soon, birthdays were missed.
Phone calls became shorter.
Church attendance became occasional.
His closest friend stopped calling because every invitation received the same answer.
“I’m busy.”
Then one unexpected afternoon, David lost his job.
Suddenly, the people he had neglected became the people he desperately needed.
Thankfully, one faithful friend answered his call immediately.
That friend listened.
He prayed.
He encouraged him.
He even helped David update his résumé.
That single act reminded David of something priceless.
People are more valuable than possessions.
Relationships last longer than promotions.
This simple story reflects countless real lives.
Many people spend years climbing a ladder only to discover it was leaning against the wrong wall.
Why We Need Each Other
Every person has needs that cannot be met alone.
Emotionally
A caring friend often brings hope when discouragement overwhelms us.
Sometimes one encouraging conversation changes everything.
Practically
There are moments when someone simply needs help.
Perhaps it’s childcare.
Maybe it’s transportation.
Sometimes it’s a meal after surgery.
Other times it’s financial advice or helping someone move.
Small acts of kindness become powerful expressions of the love of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Spiritually
Even mature believers need encouragement.
Faith grows stronger when believers pray together, study Scripture together, and encourage one another.
That is why Christian friendships matter so much.
Busyness Can Quietly Become an Idol
Many people assume they are too busy because they are productive.
Yet being busy does not always mean living wisely.
Busyness often hides deeper problems.
It can distract us from our families.
It can weaken our marriages.
It can damage lifelong friendships.
It can even reduce our time with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Eventually, success without relationships becomes empty.
Therefore, reprioritizing your life means asking difficult questions.
- What matters most?
- Who needs my attention?
- Have I replaced relationships with responsibilities?
Those questions may change your future.
Healing Broken Relationships
Sadly, pride destroys many relationships.
Sometimes both people wait for the other to apologize.
Months pass.
Years pass.
Nothing changes.
However, followers of the Lord Jesus Christ are called to pursue peace.
That first phone call may feel uncomfortable.
That first text may seem awkward.
Yet healing often begins with one courageous step.
Forgiveness does not erase the past.
Instead, it opens the door for a better future.
If reconciliation is possible and safe, choose humility over pride.
The reward is often greater than the discomfort.
When You Need Help, Ask
Many people suffer silently.
They smile in public while struggling privately.
Yet isolation rarely solves problems.
Instead, it often makes them worse.
The Lord Jesus Christ frequently works through people.
Sometimes His answer comes through a friend’s encouragement.
Sometimes through wise counsel.
Sometimes through a church family that surrounds someone with prayer.
If you’re hurting today, let someone know.
Call.
Text.
Visit.
Ask for prayer.
Seeking help is not weakness.
It is wisdom.
Sometimes You Are the Answer to Someone’s Prayer
Perhaps you are not the one needing help today.
Instead, maybe someone around you desperately needs what you already possess.
You may have:
- Time.
- Wisdom.
- Experience.
- Encouragement.
- Financial resources.
- Practical skills.
- Compassion.
Your gift may seem ordinary.
However, in the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ, ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things.
Never underestimate the impact of a simple conversation, a shared meal, or a handwritten note.
Small acts often produce lifelong memories.
Choose Connection Instead of Isolation
Modern technology connects devices.
It does not always connect hearts.
Many people have thousands of followers online yet feel completely alone.
The answer is not more scrolling.
The answer is meaningful relationships.
Meet someone for coffee.
Invite another family to dinner.
Volunteer at church.
Join a Bible study.
Visit an elderly neighbor.
Call someone you haven’t spoken with in months.
Every small step moves you closer to the life the Lord Jesus Christ intended.
Five Ways to Reprioritize Your Life This Week
- Call one family member today.
- Reconnect with one forgotten friend.
- Resolve one unresolved conflict.
- Ask someone how you can pray for them.
- Offer practical help to someone in need.
Simple actions often create lasting change.
The Greatest Example of Love
The greatest example of community comes from the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
He welcomed the lonely.
He comforted the brokenhearted.
He forgave sinners.
He served others before Himself.
He taught His followers to love one another.
When we imitate His love, our homes become stronger.
Our churches become healthier.
Our communities become brighter.
Our lives become richer.
Conclusion: Today Is the Right Time
Tomorrow is never guaranteed.
That phone call you’ve delayed may become impossible tomorrow.
That apology you’ve postponed may never happen.
That friend you’ve ignored may be silently waiting.
Today, choose people over pride.
Choose forgiveness over resentment.
Choose generosity over selfishness.
Choose community over isolation.
Most importantly, choose to follow the example of the Lord Jesus Christ every day.
Because we were never created to walk through life alone.
