After many years of studying the Scriptures and witnessing the faithfulness of the Lord Jesus Christ, I have learned one life-changing truth. The Lord Jesus Christ never runs out of power, mercy, or purpose. Therefore, today’s message will show you why Ephesians 3:20 KJV remains one of the most hope-filled promises in the Bible. More importantly, you will discover how to cooperate with His plan, grow in spiritual growth, and confidently take the next step in your walk of faith.
By the end of this article, I hope you will stop limiting the Lord Jesus Christ and start expecting Him to work in ways you never imagined.
The Promise That Changes Everything
The Apostle Paul wrote these inspiring words:
“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”
—Ephesians 3:20 (KJV)
Notice something remarkable.
Paul does not simply say that the Lord Jesus Christ answers prayer.
Instead, he says the Lord Jesus Christ is able to do exceeding abundantly above everything we ask or even think.
Think about that for a moment.
Our biggest dreams are still too small.
Our greatest prayers still fall short.
Our brightest imagination cannot fully grasp what the Lord Jesus Christ has prepared for those who trust Him.
That truth should fill every believer with fresh hope.
A Story About Small Expectations
Several years ago, a young man applied for a simple maintenance job at a local company. His goal was modest. He simply wanted enough income to provide for his family.
Instead of receiving only the position he expected, he worked faithfully every day. He treated others with kindness. He continued learning new skills. Over time, management noticed his character.
A few years later, that same employee became the department manager.
Looking back, he realized something important.
If he had received exactly what he asked for in the beginning, he would have missed something much greater.
Likewise, many of us pray with limited vision.
We ask the Lord Jesus Christ to solve today’s problem.
Meanwhile, He is preparing tomorrow’s purpose.
We pray for comfort.
He prepares character.
We pray for a door.
He prepares a calling.
We pray for survival.
He prepares abundant spiritual growth.
Why Do We Limit the Lord Jesus Christ?
Although Ephesians 3:20 KJV gives us tremendous hope, many believers still struggle to trust completely.
Why?
Because life often teaches us to lower our expectations.
Disappointments leave scars.
Failures create fear.
Broken relationships make us cautious.
Unanswered prayers tempt us to quit believing.
As a result, we begin measuring the power of the Lord Jesus Christ by our past experiences instead of His eternal promises.
That is a dangerous mistake.
The Lord Jesus Christ has never been limited by human weakness.
He opened the Red Sea.
He fed thousands with only a few loaves and fish.
He raised the dead.
Most importantly, He conquered death Himself.
Therefore, your situation is not too difficult for Him.
His Power Is Already Working Within You
Many people quote only the first part of Ephesians 3:20 KJV.
Yet Paul adds another important phrase.
“…according to the power that worketh in us.”
This changes everything.
The Lord Jesus Christ does not simply work around us.
He works within us.
His power transforms our hearts before He changes our circumstances.
First, He builds patience.
Next, He develops faith.
Then, He teaches humility.
Finally, He prepares us for blessings we could never have handled earlier.
That process is called spiritual growth.
Although we often focus on changing our surroundings, the Lord Jesus Christ first changes us.
The Lord Jesus Christ Gives You Holy Desires
Have you ever wondered why certain dreams refuse to disappear?
Perhaps you feel drawn to encourage others.
Maybe you desire to teach Scripture.
Perhaps you dream about missions, writing, serving, or helping hurting people.
Those desires may not be accidents.
The Lord Jesus Christ often plants holy desires before He opens holy doors.
Paul explains this beautifully:
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”
—Philippians 2:13 (KJV)
The Lord Jesus Christ gives both the desire and the ability to accomplish His purpose.
Therefore, your responsibility is not to manufacture His plan.
Instead, your responsibility is to remain faithful while He unfolds it.
Faith Sees Beyond Today’s Circumstances
Imagine standing beside a farmer during planting season.
He places tiny seeds into dry soil.
From the outside, nothing appears to happen.
Days pass.
Weeks pass.
Still nothing.
Yet underneath the surface, life is growing.
Eventually, green shoots appear.
Then comes the harvest.
Our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ often follows the same pattern.
Sometimes we see only buried seeds.
Meanwhile, heaven sees an approaching harvest.
Therefore, never confuse silence with absence.
The Lord Jesus Christ may be doing His greatest work where your eyes cannot yet see.
That is why faith in Jesus Christ remains essential for every believer.
When Waiting Becomes Worship
Waiting is one of the hardest parts of following the Lord Jesus Christ.
However, waiting does not mean wasting time.
Instead, waiting becomes worship when we continue trusting Him.
Consider Abraham.
He waited decades for the promised son.
Consider Joseph.
He waited through slavery and prison.
Consider David.
He waited years between being anointed king and wearing the crown.
Each season of waiting prepared them for something greater.
Likewise, your season of waiting may be preparing you for blessings that are truly immeasurably more than you currently imagine.
