As a Christian writer and teacher, I have seen how easily people can know about Jesus Christ without fully understanding His love. We can attend church, read Scripture, pray, and serve others while still secretly wondering, “Does Jesus Christ really love me?”

Today, we are going to confront that question.

We will look at what the Bible teaches about the love of Jesus Christ, why His love can be trusted, how His love changes the way we see ourselves, and how receiving His love helps us love other people.

Most importantly, we will discover that living in Jesus Christ’s love is not merely a feeling. It is a way of life.

The Friend Who Really Listens

Think about a good friend.

A good friend does not simply wait for an opportunity to speak. Instead, a good friend listens.

When you hurt, that friend cares. When you celebrate, that friend celebrates with you. When you make a mistake, that friend can correct you without destroying you.

Likewise, the Lord Jesus Christ invites us into a relationship where we can bring our real lives before Him.

We do not have to pretend.

We do not have to hide our fears.

We do not have to cover our failures with religious words.

Instead, we can come honestly.

The Lord Jesus Christ already knows our hearts. Therefore, we can trust Him with the parts of our lives that we do not want anyone else to see.

That truth brings freedom.

Jesus Christ Does More Than Talk About Love

The Bible does not present love as merely a pleasant emotion.

Instead, biblical love acts.

It gives.

It sacrifices.

It forgives.

It serves.

It remains faithful.

Jesus Christ demonstrated this kind of love through His life, death, and resurrection.

Romans 5:8 gives us one of the clearest pictures of this love:

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

We can know something without relying on it.

For example, you might know that a chair can hold you. However, you only demonstrate trust when you actually sit down.

Likewise, we can know that Jesus Christ loves us. Yet we truly begin living in His love when we rely upon that truth.

So, what does living in Jesus Christ’s love look like?

It means trusting Him when life becomes uncertain.

It means refusing to allow failure to become your identity.

It means receiving His forgiveness.

It means obeying His Word.

It means showing compassion to others.

It means forgiving when forgiveness becomes difficult.

It means choosing love when bitterness feels easier.

In other words, living in Jesus Christ’s love changes our daily decisions.

His Love Gives Us Security

Many people spend their lives trying to earn acceptance.

They work harder.

They accomplish more.

They buy more.

They impress people.

They chase approval.

Yet human approval can disappear quickly.

One day people may praise you. The next day they may criticize you.

One season may bring success. Another may bring failure.

Therefore, if your identity depends entirely on human approval, your emotional foundation will constantly move.

Jesus Christ offers something stronger.

When we understand that our worth does not depend upon human applause, we can live differently.

We can serve without needing recognition.

We can help without expecting something in return.

We can admit when we are wrong.

We can apologize.

We can forgive.

We can keep going when people misunderstand us.

Why?

Because our identity rests in Jesus Christ rather than in the changing opinions of people.

His Love Gives Us Courage

Consider what happens after you spend time with someone who genuinely encourages you.

You often leave with a different attitude.

The problem may still exist.

The bills may still need to be paid.

The diagnosis may still require attention.

The difficult conversation may still be waiting.

However, something inside you has changed.

You feel stronger.

You feel hopeful.

You feel ready to keep going.

That is one reason living in Jesus Christ’s love matters.

His love does not always remove the difficulty immediately. Instead, His presence gives us strength while we walk through the difficulty.

Ephesians 3:17–19 describes believers as being “rooted and grounded in love” and encourages us to know “the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge.”

That picture is powerful.

A tree survives storms because its roots go deep.

Likewise, Christians become spiritually stronger when their lives become deeply rooted in the love of Jesus Christ.

As a result, you may have started saying:

“I am a failure.”

“Jesus Christ could never really use someone like me.”

But your past does not have the final word.

Jesus Christ does.

The cross reminds us that redemption is possible.

Therefore, instead of allowing shame to define you, allow the love and grace of Jesus Christ to lead you toward transformation.

You may have failed.

But you are not required to remain there.

You may have fallen.

But you can get back up.

You may have wandered.

But you can return.

The love of Jesus Christ gives you hope for a new beginning.

His Love Changes How We Treat Other People

Here is where living in Jesus Christ’s love becomes practical.

It is easy to say, “Jesus Christ loves me.”

It is harder to love someone who has hurt you.

It is easy to talk about compassion.

It is harder to show compassion when someone frustrates you.

It is easy to speak about forgiveness.

It is harder to forgive when the wound still feels fresh.

Yet Jesus Christ calls us to love others.

In John 15:12, He said:

“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.”

Therefore, the love we receive should become the love we give.

A Simple Story About Living in Love

Imagine a man named Michael.

Michael arrives at work one morning already frustrated.

He slept poorly.

His car needed repairs.

His finances were tight.

Then, before he even reached his desk, a coworker criticized something he had done the previous day.

Michael felt anger rising.

His first instinct was to respond harshly.

Instead, he paused.

He remembered that Jesus Christ had forgiven him many times.

He remembered that Jesus Christ had shown him mercy.

Then he chose a different response.

He calmly asked his coworker, “Can we talk about what happened?”

The conversation did not instantly solve everything.

However, Michael refused to allow anger to control him.

Sometimes love says, “I forgive you.”

Jesus Christ connected love with obedience.

John 15:9 says:

“As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.”

Then He connected remaining in His love with keeping His commandments.

These questions reveal whether the love of Jesus Christ is becoming visible in our daily lives.

When You Feel Unloved

There will be days when you do not feel loved.

That is part of being human.

Feelings change.

Circumstances change.

People change.

However, the truth of Jesus Christ remains.

Therefore, when your emotions tell you that you are alone, return to Scripture.

When failure tells you that you are worthless, return to the cross.

When fear tells you that everything is hopeless, return to the promises of Jesus Christ.

When people reject you, remember that their rejection does not determine your value.

When life becomes difficult, remember that Jesus Christ has not changed.

Your feelings deserve attention.

However, your feelings should not become your foundation.

Let the Word of Jesus Christ become your foundation.

How to Practice Living in Jesus Christ’s Love

So, how can you begin today?

Start small.

1. Spend Time With Jesus Christ

Read Scripture.

Pray.

Be still.

Listen.

Ask the Lord Jesus Christ to help you understand His Word and live it.

2. Remember What He Has Done

Think about His mercy.

Think about His forgiveness.

Think about His sacrifice.

Think about the times He brought you through difficult seasons.

Gratitude strengthens faith.

3. Receive His Love

Stop trying to earn what Jesus Christ freely offers through His grace.

You cannot earn His love by being perfect.

Instead, receive His grace and allow His love to transform you.

4. Love Someone Deliberately

Encourage them.

Call them.

Pray for them.

Listen to them.

Forgive them.

Help them.

Then watch how one simple act of love can change the atmosphere around you.

After spending time with them, you may walk away with more courage.

We become more secure.
