What Does the Lord Jesus Christ Want From You?
Have You Ever Wondered What the Lord Jesus Christ Wants From Your Life?
Have you ever felt confused about your purpose? Perhaps you have prayed and asked, “What is the Lord Jesus Christ’s will for my life?” Maybe you have wondered, “What is my calling?” Or perhaps you have asked, “How can I truly please the Lord Jesus Christ?”
If so, you are not alone.
In fact, many believers spend years searching for complicated answers while overlooking a simple truth that has been in Scripture all along. As a Christian writer and Bible teacher, I have seen countless people struggle with guilt, confusion, and uncertainty because they believe they must discover some hidden mission before they can please the Lord Jesus Christ.
However, the Bible gives a remarkably clear answer.
Today, we will discover what the Lord Jesus Christ truly desires from us. We will explore a powerful passage from Micah 6:8, learn how it applies to everyday life, and uncover how doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly can transform our relationship with Him.
The Problem: Mistaking Religion for Relationship
Throughout history, people have tried to earn favor through religious activity.
They attend services. They give offerings. They follow traditions. They say prayers.
Yet, despite all these actions, many still feel empty.
This was exactly the situation during the time of the prophet Micah. The people were offering sacrifices and performing religious rituals. However, their hearts were far from the Lord Jesus Christ. They practiced worship outwardly while embracing deception, injustice, and pride inwardly.
As a result, Micah delivered a powerful message:
“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8 ESV)
Similarly, the prophet Hosea declared:
“For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.” (Hosea 6:6 NIV)
Therefore, the Lord Jesus Christ is not primarily seeking religious performance. Instead, He desires transformed hearts.
What Does the Lord Jesus Christ Want?
At its core, the answer is simple.
The Lord Jesus Christ wants us to love Him and love people.
When Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment, He summarized everything into two commands:
- Love the Lord with all your heart.
- Love your neighbor as yourself.
Likewise, Micah summarized this same truth in three practical actions:
- Do Justice
- Love Kindness
- Walk Humbly
Let’s examine each one.
First: Do Justice
Doing justice means more than talking about what is right.
Instead, it requires action.
Faith and works must work together. Therefore, doing justice means helping those who are hurting. It means defending those who are vulnerable. It means treating people fairly and honestly.
For example, imagine a coworker who is constantly ignored or mistreated. Instead of remaining silent, you respectfully stand up for them.
Likewise, imagine a child being bullied at school. A believer who practices justice does not look away. Instead, they become a voice for the voiceless.
Consequently, doing justice reflects the heart of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Practical Ways to Do Justice
- Speak truth even when it is difficult.
- Treat everyone fairly.
- Help the poor and needy.
- Defend those who cannot defend themselves.
- Refuse to participate in gossip or dishonesty.
Ultimately, biblical justice is love in action.
Second: Love Kindness
Kindness is one of the most powerful forces in the world.
Yet, many people struggle to show kindness when they have been hurt.
However, the Lord Jesus Christ demonstrates extraordinary kindness toward us every day.
Even when we fail, He extends mercy.
Even when we wander, He calls us back.
Even when we do not deserve it, He shows grace.
Because we have received such mercy, we should extend mercy to others.
Jesus taught this principle clearly:
“Love your enemies, do good to them…” (Luke 6:35)
Notice how radical this teaching is.
The Lord Jesus Christ does not tell us to be kind only to people who deserve it. Instead, He teaches us to show kindness even to difficult people.
A Real-Life Example
A woman discovered that a coworker had been spreading rumors about her.
Naturally, she felt angry and hurt.
However, instead of retaliating, she chose kindness. She continued treating the coworker respectfully.
Months later, the coworker apologized and admitted her wrongdoing.
As a result, kindness accomplished what anger never could.
Therefore, loving kindness reflects the mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Third: Walk Humbly
Humility can be difficult.
After all, human nature often wants recognition, praise, and control.
Yet, Micah teaches us to walk humbly.
Walking humbly means recognizing our dependence on the Lord Jesus Christ.
It means remaining teachable.
It means admitting when we are wrong.
It means understanding that we have limitations.
Furthermore, humility reminds us that every blessing comes from the Lord Jesus Christ.
What Humility Looks Like
- Listening more than speaking.
- Accepting correction.
- Giving credit to others.
- Depending on prayer.
- Trusting the Lord Jesus Christ rather than personal strength.
Ironically, true strength often begins with humility.
When we surrender ourselves to the Lord Jesus Christ, He can accomplish amazing things through us.
Why These Three Qualities Matter Today
Today’s world desperately needs justice, kindness, and humility.
Unfortunately, we often see injustice instead of fairness.
We often see hatred instead of kindness.
We often see pride instead of humility.
As followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, we have an opportunity to be different.
We can become lights in a dark world.
We can become examples of mercy in a culture of anger.
We can become ambassadors of hope in a world filled with division.
Therefore, Micah’s message remains just as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago.
The Solution: Focus on the Heart
Many believers ask, “What is the Lord Jesus Christ’s will for my life?”
While specific callings may vary, the foundation remains the same.
Before the Lord Jesus Christ calls us to great assignments, He calls us to great character.
Before He calls us to platforms, He calls us to humility.
Before He calls us to influence, He calls us to kindness.
Before He calls us to leadership, He calls us to justice.
As a result, when we focus on becoming the people He desires us to be, our purpose becomes clearer.
