For years, I have studied the Scriptures and shared biblical truth through Possibility Plus. One lesson has become clearer than ever. Every believer faces spiritual battles. Yet many Christians try to fight them with human strength instead of the strength that the Lord Jesus Christ provides.
Today, you will discover why the Armor of the Lord Jesus Christ is essential, why it was never meant for one believer alone, and how the whole Church can stand together against every attack of the enemy.
The Battle Is Real
Although many people only see physical problems, the Bible reveals another reality.
The Apostle Paul wrote:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12)
Therefore, our greatest battles are often invisible.
Stress may come through finances.
Fear may come through bad news.
Temptation may come through everyday choices.
Division may enter families and churches.
However, behind these struggles lies a spiritual battle.
Thankfully, the Lord Jesus Christ has not left His people defenseless.
The Armor Belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ
One important truth often gets overlooked.
Paul did not tell believers to create their own armor.
Instead, he wrote:
“Put on the whole armour of God…” (Ephesians 6:11)
Since the Lord Jesus Christ is our Everlasting Father (Isaiah 9:6), this armor belongs to Him. He provides everything His people need.
As a result, victory never depends upon human ability.
Instead, victory comes through trusting the Lord Jesus Christ.
Roman Armor Gives Us a Powerful Picture
In Paul’s day, Roman soldiers wore impressive protection.
Their equipment included:
- A strong helmet
- A heavy breastplate
- A large shield
- A sword
- Protective sandals
- A sturdy belt
Likewise, believers receive spiritual protection.
Paul uses familiar military equipment to teach eternal spiritual truths.
Every Piece of the Armor Has a Purpose
The Belt of Truth
Truth holds everything together.
Without biblical truth, lies quickly spread.
Therefore, believers must build their lives upon the Word of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus declared:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)
The Breastplate of Righteousness
The breastplate protected a soldier’s heart.
Likewise, the righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ protects our spiritual lives.
Because of Him, believers can stand confidently before the Lord Jesus Christ instead of living in guilt and shame.
Shoes of the Gospel of Peace
Roman soldiers needed firm footing.
Similarly, Christians need stability.
The Gospel keeps us standing when life becomes uncertain.
Instead of spreading fear, we spread hope.
The Shield of Faith
Roman shields stopped fiery arrows.
Today, faith stops fear, doubt, anxiety, and discouragement.
Every promise of Scripture strengthens our shield.
When fear whispers, faith answers.
The Helmet of Salvation
The helmet protected the mind.
Likewise, salvation guards our thoughts.
Many spiritual attacks begin in the mind.
Therefore, believers must remember who they are in the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Sword of the Spirit
The Word of the Lord Jesus Christ is our only offensive weapon.
When the Lord Jesus Christ faced temptation in the wilderness, He answered every attack with Scripture.
His example teaches us to respond with biblical truth instead of human opinion.
The Armor Is Meant for the Whole Church
Here is something many people miss.
Paul was not speaking to one believer.
He was writing to the Church.
Consequently, the command to wear the Armor of the Lord Jesus Christ applies to all believers together.
Imagine a Roman army.
Each soldier protected the one beside him.
Their shields formed a wall.
Their unity became their strength.
Likewise, the Church stands stronger together than alone.
Prayer becomes stronger together.
Praise becomes louder together.
Faith becomes stronger together.
Hope becomes brighter together.
That is exactly how the Lord Jesus Christ designed His Church.
A Story About Standing Together
Several years ago, a small congregation faced enormous challenges.
Families lost jobs.
Several members became seriously ill.
Others struggled with depression.
Instead of giving up, the church gathered every evening for prayer.
They studied Scripture together.
They encouraged one another.
They shared meals.
They helped those in need.
Although their problems did not disappear overnight, something remarkable happened.
Fear gave way to peace.
Discouragement became hope.
Weakness became strength.
They stood together in the Armor of the Lord Jesus Christ.
That is what spiritual victory looks like.
How to Put on the Armor Every Day
Putting on spiritual armor is not a ritual.
Instead, it becomes a daily lifestyle.
Each morning:
- Begin with prayer.
- Read the Bible.
- Trust the promises of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Reject fear.
- Speak truth.
- Walk in obedience.
- Encourage another believer.
- Stay connected to your local church.
- Keep praising the Lord Jesus Christ even during difficult seasons.
As you practice these habits, your spiritual strength grows.
Why This Message Matters Today
Today’s world feels uncertain.
Wars continue.
Families struggle.
Many people battle anxiety.
False teaching spreads quickly.
Therefore, Christians need spiritual armor more than ever.
Thankfully, the Lord Jesus Christ has already supplied everything His people need.
His armor never fails.
His strength never weakens.
His promises never change.
Final Encouragement
Every believer will face spiritual battles.
However, no believer has to fight alone.
The Lord Jesus Christ equips His Church with truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and His powerful Word.
Therefore, stand firm.
Pray together.
Worship together.
Serve together.
Encourage one another.
Above all, trust completely in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is our Everlasting Father, our Savior, and our victorious King.
When the Church stands together wearing His armor, no spiritual attack can overcome the people He has redeemed.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” — Ephesians 6:10
